The SDCLA finishes the season with a championship round for the top 8 teams in Div I and a Consolation round for the next 8 seeded teams (seeds 9-16).  These playoffs will commence Tuesday May 17  with semi-finals on May 19 and the finals on May 21.  The games on May 17 and 19 will be at the site of the higher seeded team except as noted below.

In addition, the SDCLA also has all star games on May 21 for four groups: Div I Group A for the top 20 seeded teams, Div I Group B for the remaining teams in Div I, Div III Group A for the top 20 seeded teams and DIII Group B for the remaining teams in DIII.

The site for the finals and all star games on May 21 will be El Camino High School in Oceanside

The playoffs for the top 8 teams will match up in the first round based on seedings with #1 vs. #8, #2 vs. #7, etc.  The playoffs for the consolation round may take geography into consideration for the first and second round so there may not be a precise matching of seeds as being used in the championship round.  If the higher seeded team cannot host the game on the specified date then the lower seeded team will host the game.  Changing the game date is not an option.

In determining seeds for the playoffs and all stars the teams from Temecula and Riverside will not be included.

The all star game is organized by allocating a number of players to each team based on their final seeding.  Each team will then select which of their players will participate in the all-star game.  Each game will be organized with approximately 20-25 players to each side.  In the Div I A group, I am expecting that the teams will be allocated up to 4 players for the top teams down to 2 players for the lowest seeded teams (#13 through #20).  For Div I B the range will likely be 3 players for top seeded teams to 1 player for the lower seeded teams and for Div III the range will likely be from up to 4 players for top seeded teams to 2 players for the lower seeded teams.  The allocation of players will be announced May 15 by 6pm.  Each team will then need to notify me by the end of day Wed May 18 of the players selected, their position and whether they will attend the all star game.  This list is needed for organizing the rosters.  They will also receive all star t-shirts the day of the game.  Please do not send me requests to add additional players beyond your allotment.  Please make sure your all star selections can actually attend the game.

The coaches for the all star games:

I would like coaches to volunteer for coaching in the all star game.  I would like at least two coaches for each side in the game.  I will select the coaches for each team from the list of volunteers in order of the seeding of the team they represent.  If someone volunteers and their team makes the championship round, they will be excused from the list because they are not likely going to want to coach after the championship game. The primary responsibility of the coaches is to get them organized for the game and do their best to get players a fair amount of playing time.  I would like to have volunteers submit their names by May 16.  I will notify the coaches selected by May 19.

The following are the planned game times for the finals and all star games on May 21, however this schedule times may change (I will send out an update the last weekend of the season):

10:00 AM

The SDCLA adopted the following more restrictive geographic player eligibility requirement at its annual league meeting held January 21, 2016.

If a player cannot or does not want to play for the team associated with where he goes to school or where he lives, then he can request to play with the team that is geographically closest to where he would have played. It will not be based on where someone plans to go to school in an upcoming year. Representatives for both programs will need to agree and then it will need the commissioner’s approval. The commissioner’s approval will be based on the merits. There will be no grandfathering of circumstances or understandings that existed in 2015.

Players just wanting to play for a better team will be frowned upon. Players wanting to play for a less skilled team in a circumstance where he is likely to get less playing time for the team where he lives may be approved.

The SDCLA middle school league is focused on community based lacrosse programs. There are plenty of travel teams available in all areas of San Diego that players can participate in outside of the league season to their satisfy desire to play at a higher level than offered by their community team.

Prior to this rule change, the league had historically allowed players to play for teams other than the teams associated with where they attend school or where they live if the coaches from both teams agreed.
