News and Announcements

Dear Parents,

I'm only 46, but I had a senior moment last week when I realized, after sending newsblast #8, that we need 8 parent volunteers to help at this Wednesday's EBAL Center Meet in Concord. And that my Sign Up Genius page for this event was not even live. Ooops. So, now, with just 2 days left to recruit 8 helpful souls, I hereby BEG you to sign up if you have not yet volunteered this season (or if you are just plain awesome and don't mind volunteering again).

If there is one weird trick to reduce belly fat, would that same trick get parents to click on our Sign Up Genius links and help the team out? I hope so.

Here are the Sign Up Genius page links (listed in order of highest urgency). Please sign up.

Oct. 14 -- 12 parents needed asap: EBAL Center Meet (Concord)

Oct. 16 -- 4 parents needed: MV XC Parent Night in the Football Snack Shack

2 parents needed to plan our XC  "Senior Night"

Nov. 5 -- Doesn't count as meet volunteering, but food donations and help still needed for our EBAL Carbo Load Picnic at Oak Hill Park

Nov. 6 -- 12 parents needed: EBAL Championships at Shadow Cliffs

Dec. 2 -- 8 parents needed: Team Banquet

Once again, thank you to all who've already volunteered and thank you all for being great, active parents this season!

Sincerely,

Courtney

XC Team Parent

P.S. Congrats to all our Mustangs who got up early today and ran in the SRVEF Run for Education. We had a great turnout!

Dear Parents and Runners,

Hello Mustangs! The next 6 days will be busy for Cross Country and I want to give you a few "Heads-Up" as well as some general news.

The SRVEF Run for Education This Sunday: Mustangs Encouraged to Run!

  • The coaches are encouraging all of our team members to race in this Sunday's SRVEF Run for Education (the 5k race formerly known as "Primo's Run").
  • Details about the cost and how to register for the 5k timed run can be found online. Race starts at 8:15. Registration deadline is Oct. 10.
  • Prizes are awarded to the top runners (and to the biggest high school cross country teams!).
  • Completing the 5k timed run with an official time will count as one of the week's workouts. The coaches will be discussing alternative workout options at practice for those who can't participate in the run on Sunday.

Team Photos at Practice Next Tuesday (Oct. 13): Coaches are handing out photo ordering packets. Purchasing photos is not required. Wear your uniform! Athletes must be in uniform for the group photo.

    • 4:50pm - girls jv
    • 5:20pm - boys varsity
    • 5:45pm - girls varsity

  • Dismissal: Athletes are required to stay until the conclusion of the meet. Once dismissed, athletes may leave with their parents or take the bus back to Monte Vista.
  • Photos: If you take any good pictures this season of your own athlete or others, please email them to mvrunningpix@gmail.com. The more photos, the better our slideshow will be at the team banquet.

Thank YOU!! Thank you to all the parents who have helped so far this season with various jobs.  If you haven't had a chance to volunteer yet, consider helping out Oct. 16 at the always fun Cross Country Night at the Football Snack Shack -- we only need 5 more helpers.

Go Mustangs!

P.S. Need to refer back to a team newsblast, but you deleted it? No worries -- I post all the newsblasts on the TEAM NEWS page of the team's website.

10/3 - The Scott Bauhs Harrier Invite:  Bame, Sawchuk fastest!

It's three mile races today as the Mustangs take on the EBAL course at Shadow Cliffs Regional Park.  Like the MV Invite, the meet is run in grade level races (with some combining of races).  With the varsity sitting this one out, Soph Olivia Bame paces the girls team by running 20:02 in the 9th / 10th grade race.   On the boys side, Soph Carson Sawchuk runs 17:25 to lead all MV boys today.   Results can be found here and on xcstats.

Subject: Newsblast #7 for MV Cross Country: Scott Bauhs Meet Instructions

Dear Parents and Runners,

Good morning! Please don't shoot the messenger because of the delay in getting out the Scott Bauhs meet info. We only just received final confirmation last night of the race times due to the fact that the meet director decided to consolidate the four girls races into two races. Please read on...

Scott Bauhs Harrier Invite Meet This Saturday Morning:

  • Arrival Time & Transportation: All athletes must arrive 2 hours before their race time. Parents must drive athletes to and from the meet. Students may not drive themselves (per district policy).
  • Location & $6 Parking Fee: The meet is held at the Shadow Cliffs Regional Recreation Area in Pleasanton. Each car entering the park will have to pay $6 (no drop offs). If you don't mind a ten minute walk to the park, you can park for free at the BMX park on Stanley Boulevard or on the back side of the park on Old Vineyard Ave/Park Access Road. Parking in both of those areas is limited. You can also drop off athletes on Stanley Blvd and they can walk down.
  • What to Bring: Wear your uniform, of course, and also wear or bring your Monte Vista warm up suit (or plain black sweats). Unpredictable fall weather has arrived and we need to be prepared to stay warm. Also bring plenty of water and race-friendly snacks.
  • Race Schedule / Assignments: Races are held by class. Arrive 2 hours before your race. (Note: athletes who ran last week in Portland are not attending this meet.)
    • Freshman Boys-9:00
    • Frosh/Soph Girls-9:35
    • Sophomore Boys-10:10
    • Junior Boys-10:45
    • Junior/Senior Girls-11:20
    • Senior Boys-11:55
  • Meet Info: Top 10 in each race boys race and top 20 in each girls race will receive a custom long-sleeve t-shirt. Download the course map and course records.
  • Dismissal: Usually athletes are required to stay until the conclusion of meets. At this meet, however, athletes are encouraged to stay to cheer on their teammates, but may leave earlier with their parents at the conclusion of their own race (after cooling down).
  • Photos: If you take any good pictures this season of your own athlete or others, please share them with Coach Davis. Email them to mvrunningpix@gmail.com. The more help we get with great photos, the better our team slideshow will be at the team banquet. Thanks!

Looking for Slideshow Helpers:
  • Help Wanted! Who Can Help Prepare the Slideshow for the Team Banquet? I'm looking for both student and parent helpers to start working on the season-end slideshow. We need someone to view lots of photos and select good shots (and cull out blurry shots and duplicates, etc.). If you enjoy this sort of thing, please contact me right away.

Portland XC Invite: Mustangs feel right at home in Portland!

Posted by Mike Davis at Sep 24, 2015 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
9/25 - Mustangs travel to Portland OR for the Nike XC Pre-Nationals!
Varsity squads take on teams from OR, WA, CO, ID and CA as they run in the seeded "Danner Championship" race.  Despite facing off against highly ranked teams, neither squad was intimidated as they battled through the 5K race.  The girls team earns a hard fought 7th place, finishing just behind CA ranked Bella Vista.  Sr Brooke Starn finishes 4th overall in a fast 18:00 while Jr Meredith Corda is 17th in 18:33.   Maddie Coney, Lauren Cervantes, Alex Wilson, Morgan Dowling and Elana Lim complete the team today.

The boys team also earns a top 10 finish, taking 9th place in the competitive field (just 11 pts from 6th).  Sr Tim Chrisman again paces the team in 15:55 for 5K, taking 25th place.  Jrs Nick Vomund and Daniel Maneloveg are close behind in 16:04 and 16:08.   The rest of the boys varsity team today is: Tristan Miller, Matt Johnson, Ben Smiley and Brendan Lau.

Results can be found
here (MV is in the Danner Championship 5k - scroll down).
