Chevron, Cisco, Kaiser, LLNL, Oracle, PG&E, or Wells Fargo: Work for one of these companies? They can match your team donation and we would sure appreciate it! Contact me and I'll do the leg work. We are still hoping that families who have not yet donated will decide to participate. EVERY donation is appreciated, no matter how small. Donate online or write a check to MV Cross Country and turn in to any coach. It's not too late -- help us prevent ending the season in a deficit hole. THANK YOU SO MUCH to those families who've already requested matching grants!! (Please let us know if you requested a match so we can alert our bookkeeper.)

Newsblast #10: Raingear and odds and ends

Subject: Cross Country News - Important Odds and Ends!

Runners and parents -

Allow me to give team parent Courtney a little break after all her planning and chaperoning of our hugely successful Mt Sac Invite trip.   There are a couple things this week that I'd like to cover, so in rapid fire - here goes:

1.  Weather.   Rain is actually in the forecast for tonight and tomorrow.  While it looks like it could clear by practice time, I want to remind everyone that we do not cancel practice for rain.  It would take an epic storm (please bring one mother nature...) for us to cancel.   We would announce it at school and via email.   So for the remainder of the season, all athletes should have some sort of rain gear in their backpacks / locker to keep dry should we encounter rain.  Don't be caught cold, wet and shivering!

2.  Practice this week.   Friday is a non school day.  We have decided that the FS and JV will not have a formal practice.  The workout schedule calls for a 40 minute run.  PLEASE make sure you do this on your own or in groups.  All runs at this point of the season should be negative split run, meaning that you finish faster than you started.   Practice finishing fast, and your be ready to finish fast in races.

There is no practice for FS or JV on Saturday.    Varsity WILL practice on Friday, time TBD and Varsity WILL practice on Saturday, time TBD

Tomorrow Coach Mandee and Coach Davis will be at the start of practice only.  Varsity gets to do mile repeats tomorrow.  Yay!  Coach Kara will be in charge of the run for FS and JV.   After todays workout, the run will not be long.  The entire team will run the Diablo LOOP, going out LONG and coming back LONG.  It is less than 5 miles.  After you come back, the speed drills will be set up (jump ropes, ladders, mini hurdles).  Please be prepared and support Coach Kara.

3.   Mt SAC results.  If you are not aware of the amazing performances that were turned in by the team at the Mt Sac Invite, then at least check out the team web site for a summary.   Both boys and girls ran the fastest Mt Sac times in school history.  Both varsity teams won their races.  Sr Brooke Starn won her race and ran the fastest time out of 10,000+ girls over the two day event!   Yes, that is not a typo.  Check it out:  http://www.eteamz.com/mvxc/

4.  Colds, flu, nutrition, etc..   Most of the team has less than two weeks left.  We have worked hard, raced hard, and are ready to go after league titles next Friday at Shadow Cliffs Park.   We must stay healthy!   As usual, there are cold and flu bugs already going around.   Please double down on your nutrition, including vitimins to supplement your tired immune system.  If you feel a cold coming on - do not come to practice.  Stay home and kick it.   Lots of fluids, rest,,, knock it out!  Extra sleep right now is difficult, but will pay dividends.  If we stay healthy, we are going to deliver epic results next week.

5.  Donations.   Yes, I have to take time and once again bring up this subject, even at this late stage of the season.   As of today, 3 out of 4 families have made their donation to the program.  We are so appreciative of your contribution.  I know many of the 75% are also families that have donated their time at our events.   Thank you!  Unfortunately, one out of four of you have either forgetten to do so, are unable to do so, or perhaps have not found value in the time and effort the coaching staff has put forth this season.   I really hope it's the first reason, and that if you have been meaning to donate to the team, you can do so now.   It's really difficult to know what to spend on the banquet and end of season competitions with this gap facing us.  This will be the last time I bring up this subject.

6.  Pictures will be handed out at the banquet - stay tuned for more information.

Thank you for reading this and your support of MVXC!   GO MUSTANGS

How to Donate / Current Fundraising Status

Posted by Courtney Corda at Oct 21, 2015 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

Ways to Donate

1) Turn in cash or a check for ANY amount to any coach at practice. Make check to Monte Vista Cross Country. Alternatively, turn in cash or a check to Frances Farrell in the Monte Vista Bookkeeper's Office at any time.

2) Donate $245 online at the MV Webstore.

3) Donate your unused / unwanted gift cards that still have value. Contact team parent Courtney Corda for details (email cjcorda@yahoo.com or call 698-8769).

4) Ask your company to match the team donation you made earlier this season.  Find corporate matching instructions HERE or contact Courtney Corda for help filling out your company form. Your team donation is a tax-deductible charitable donation and it *is* matchable by most corporate matching programs.

Background & Status

The SRVUSD and MVHS do not fund high school sports. The district and school provide a single coach's stipend and free use of school facilities and that's about it. Everything else must come from donations. The school tells us that, as of mid October, approximately 75% of cross country athletes' families have made a donation to the program. Our budget is based on the idea that 100% of families will donate at least something. The suggested amount of $245 is achieved by dividing our total basic needs by the estimated number of athletes. At the beginning of the season, we estimated 125 athletes. Our actual total is 122. This makes it more important than ever for every family to participate in funding our program. Every donation helps, no matter how small.
