02/21/05 Joint Press Release

Velocity Sports Performance to Provide Sports Performance Training to The Desert Wolves Girls Fast Pitch Softball Club

Scottsdale, Arizona  facility’s highly trained coaches and advanced programs will provide all Desert Wolves teams with expert performance training in the areas of speed, power, agility and injury prevention. Desert Wolves look to Velocity to help them train to reach the next level of success.

Scottsdale, Arizona – Velocity Sports Performance, an advanced athletic performance training program for athletes of all skills and ages, announced today they have reached an agreement with the Desert Wolves Girls Fast Pitch Softball Club to provide athletic training for all of the club’s teams, comprising over 45 athletes.

Coaches at Velocity Sports Performance in Scottsdale will provide the athletic evaluations at club tryouts and train club members to increase their speed, power and agility and learn injury prevention techniques at both the Velocity facility and at the Desert Wolves practice fields.  Velocity Sports Performance has already developed a custom pre-game athletic warm up and post-game cool down program for the Desert Wolves, and will provide speed camps and clinics to the athletes, along with training seminars for all Desert Wolves coaches and trainers. The customized warm up and cool down exercises developed for the Desert Wolves players will help lessen the frequency of injury, keeping the athletes healthier and will help the players stay fresh during the long tournament weekends.

“Our entire team of coaches is looking forward to training the Desert Wolves,” said Stieg Theander, Sports Performance Director of the Scottsdale Velocity Sports Performance center. Theander, the head strength and conditioning coach for The Phoenix Coyotes NHL Hockey Club for the past eight seasons prior to joining Velocity Sports Performance, has a great deal of experience with developing customized training programs for optimal performance and injury prevention. Theander continues, “Our training methods have proven to make athletes of all ages faster, stronger, and more agile and flexible.”

The Desert Wolves coaching staff and club management is very exited to begin the training relationship. “Velocity’s program does not replace the skills and game play training provided by our coaches, rather it augments and enhances our overall ability to compete by improving speed, power, agility, balance, movement and injury prevention,” said Merrick Firestone,  one of the founders of the Desert Wolves Girls Fast Pitch Softball Club. “They might be new to Arizona but Velocity Sports Performance’s national reputation and their proven training techniques will have a positive impact on all the teams in our club.” Firestone adds that, “Although the performance training programs and clinics we are providing to our players in the practice setting delivers a good foundation, we are recommending that all of our parents enroll their kids in the semi-private training programs offered at Velocity Sports Performance. This company is well known nationwide for creating stronger, healthier and more confident kids, no matter what sport they play. They have proven that the more often an athlete trains, the better the result.”

Velocity Sports Performance will begin the team training program for Desert Wolves players immediately. For individual athletes, teams and leagues, regardless of their sport, tours and program enrollment is available at the training center, located at 9171 East Bell Road (Loop 101). For more information, please call 480-503-8212.

A Sixth grade teacher explains to her class that she is a Soccer player. She asks her students to raise their hands if they, too, are Soccer players. Everyone in the class raises their hand excect one girl. The teacher looks at the girl with surprise and says, "Rachel, why didn't you raise your hand?" "Because I'm not a Soccer player," she replied. The teacher, still shocked, asked, "Well, if you are not a Soccer player, then who are you a fan of ?" "I am a Fast Pitch Softball player, and proud of it," Rachel replied. The teacher could not believe her ears. "Rachel, why pray tell are you a SOFTBALL player?" "Because my Mom is a Sofball fan, and my dad is Softball and Baseball player, so I'm a Fast Pitch Softball Player!" "Well," said the teacher in an obviously annoyed tone, "that is no reason for you to be a Softball Player. You don't have to be just like your parents all of the time. What if your Mom were a moron and your Dad were a moron, what would you be then?" "Then," Rachel smiled, "I'd be a Soccer player."imageimage

What do you call a good umpire? Rare The devil challenged St. Peter to a baseball game. " How can you win, Satan?" asked St. Peter. "All the famous ballplayers are up here." " How can I lose?" answered Satan. "All the umpires are down here." What is the difference between baseball and law? In baseball, if you're caught stealing, you're out. What do you get when you cross a tree with a baseball player? Babe Root What takes longer, running from first to second, or from second to third? Second to third, because you have to go through a shortstop. Why did the softball coach kick Cinderella off the team? Because she ran away from the ball. What goes all the way around a softball field but never moves? The fence A rookie pitcher was struggling at the mound, so the catcher walked up to have a talk with him. "I've figured out your problem," he told the young southpaw. "You always lose control at the same point in every game." " When is that?" "Right after the National Anthem." The wind blew so much dust around the field today, we couldn't even see who was beating us.
