Challenger Division

Posted by Dave Barnes at Oct 1, 2012 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

The Challenger Division was established in 1989 as a separate division of Little League to enable boys and girls with physical and mental challenges, ages 4-18, or up to age 22 if still enrolled in high school, to enjoy the game of baseball along with the millions of other children who participate in this sport worldwide. Today, more than 30,000 children participate in more than 900 Challenger Divisions worldwide.

Teams are set up according to abilities, rather than age, and can include as many as 15-20 players. Challenger games can be played as tee ball games, coach pitch, player pitch, or a combination of the three.

In a Challenger game, each player gets a chance to bat. The side is retired when the offense has batted through the roster, or when a pre-determined number of runs have been scored, or when three outs are recorded. Little League recommends that no score be kept during Challenger games. The Challenger players wear the same uniforms, shoulder patches and safety equipment as other Little League players.

One of the benefits of having a Challenger Division is that it encourages the use of "buddies" for the Challenger players. The buddies assist the Challenger players on the field, but whenever possible, encourage the players to bat and make plays themselves. However, the buddy is always nearby to help when needed.

Parents and teenagers are strongly encouraged to become involved in this uniquely-rewarding division of Little League. After completing a Little League volunteer application and passing a required national background check, teenagers may become buddies, while parents may become involved in practices, and be eligible as coaches, managers, umpires, local league board members and other volunteer positions within the league.

It is that time again. All new 2015 Board of Directors contact information must be updated with Little League International.

Little League offers local leagues many tools through the online data center. When a League President or Official logs into the data center, s/he can perform many tasks which include: Online Chartering of your league,  Updating your league Officers and Board of Directors, View your waiver requests to the Charter Committee for status and Approval, Purchase supplies from the Little League Store online, Check your safety plan status, Submit your safety facility survey, and much more!

We urge everyone to take advantage of the data center, especially in regards to updating league officer information. This is vital so that Little League can send the appropriate information to the right people every season. To access the data center today, please click the link below.

Facility Survey

Posted by Dave Barnes at Apr 5, 2009 5:00PM PDT ( 1 Comment )

SAFETY PLAN FACILITY SURVEY

LEAGUE PRESIDENTS: Many leagues that turn in a safety plan to Little League, do not turn in the facility survey, and their plans are rejected. The facility survey is mailed to your league's address every year along with all of the other ASAP materials. The facility survey is simply a three page form that needs to be filled out about your baseball fields. If you do not have this form, I have uploaded it in a PDF file in the handout section. It is also linked below this paragraph.

LEAGUE PRESIDENTS: I would also like to urge everyone to go to this website http://facilitysurvey.musco.com. This is the official Little League/Musco Lighting Facility Survey Center. All you have to do is login with your League ID# and password. You can fill out your Facility Survey right there and it even gives you the option of printing it out afterwards in a PDF file. If this is your first time using this, you will have to obtain your password from Little League. You can send Heather Anderson an email at heather.anderson@musco.com requesting your password. Just include your name, League ID# and affiliation with the league. I strongly urge everyone to take advantage of this.
