Jimmy Fund News

Posted by Marie Shea at Jul 21, 2016 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
Good morning all, I wanted to extend my sincere thank you to District 12 baseball for their support last night at Conant Park in Melrose for the 9 year old Jimmy Fund game against Medford. A special and courageous 6 year old boy from Melrose, Ryan Feeney, played with the Melrose 9 year old team last night and it was a great success for all involved. Medford Little League should be proud of the players and coaches of their 9 year old JF team. They did an outstanding job and the players represented their families, their coaches, their league and themselves wonderfully. Teams from Everett, Malden and Melrose were in attendance to support the younger players and to cheer on Ryan. Ryan's parents, Shawn & Jill, and his older brother Jack, were all blown away by the support of everyone at the field last night. It was truly a special night and one the Feeney Family told me they'd remember for a long time. As for Ryan, he enjoyed every minute of it, he earned a walk, had a nice hit and ran the bases, scoring both times he reached base in his two at-bats. I have attached a couple of photo's from last night. Ryan's smile speaks for itself. Thank you all again, District 12 is a great place to play baseball because of the players, parents and coaches involved and the Jimmy Fund tournament is about so much more than winning and losing baseball games. If anyone would like to help Ryan in his fight against Neurofibromatosis, the Feeney Family is having a fundraiser for NF at the Melrose Knights of Columbus on Thursday, August 4th at 7 p.m. Or if you would like to donate here is a link to Team RYNO: http://www.firstgiving.com/team/328947 Sincerely, Cory Thomas Vice President Melrose National Little League   image

Marie Shea D-12 Red Sox Foundation volunteer of the year.

Posted by Michael Fontana at Sep 5, 2015 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
On behalf of District 12,

I want to congratulate our Secratary Marie Shea for earning the 2015 Redsox Foundation Volunteer of the Year Award.

Marie will receive this award tonight 8-14-2015 prior to the Red Sox game at Fenway. Please review Marie's accomplishments that earned her this award.

"Her service to Little League is around 13 years in total, having served as a board member most of those years!

She has been a league treasurer in Malden, also has been our concession stand coordinator, also safety officer, player agent. She has been volunteering even after her son turned 13 this year and left little league for Babe Ruth.

Her dedication to special needs children not only in Malden but our other leagues in D12 is truly amazing.

She was the person solely responsible for Chartering a Challenger League 9 years ago. Not because she had to but because she thought all children should have the opportunity to play Little League baseball no matter what their issues are. I was President of Malden Northern at that time, I can still remember the chill I got when she told me she contacted Williamsport. I thought she was joking, but she in fact filed for a Challenger Charter. At first it was a small program but over the years it has flourished. This year we have around 52 registered players.

She has devoted herself to our District 12 Challenger program without hesitation.

But it goes beyond the challenger league, her volunteerism includes not only our District but also at the Jimmy Fund level.

In my eyes - when I hear the phrase
"Volunteer of the year" it's Marie Shea hands down!"
