Harrison High School - Sunday, July 24th, 2005. After being down two goals to none at halftime, Harrison Team East scores 5 unanswered goals in the second half to defeat Harrison Team West 5-2 in a well played 2nd annual Mayor's Cup game. Team West went up early in the first half after a hand ball in the box gave Team West a penalty kick which was easily converted by Tony Gjokaj in the 20th minute. Things got worse for Team East quickly after that as an errant back pass by Team East's defender Brian O'Gallagher ended up in the back of the net for an own goal. This gave Team West a comfortable lead of 2-0 by the half hour mark. Things stayed that way right up to halftime as a frustrated Team East looked to regroup and come out strong in the second half. The second half started off with a confident Team West looking to hold on to their lead and a Team East looking to hold the line and score their first goal. Team West pressed early but their efforts were not rewarded. This gave Team East a bit more confidence until finally their first goal came on the hour mark as Hugo scored with the left foot from the edge of the 18 yard box into the upper right corner of the net past an outstretched keeper. Pablo then scored the tying goal five minutes later with a brilliant move past the defense. The go ahead goal was in the 70th minute and was a wonderful header by Gary who connected with a beatiful cross from Pablo. Team West came close to tying when an injured Tony Gjokaj barely missed wide on a close shot when the ball dropped at his feet in the box. Team East fourth goal came in the 80th minute when Chris Forester took a pass from Gary at the 18 yard box and put a left foot shot in the top right corner with no chance by the keeper. The last goal was Gary's second when he made sure that Pablo's shot which got away from the keeper found its way into the net. The whistle sounded and Team East had completed their come from behind victory thanks to great teamwork and a great deal of patience. The Harrison Men's Age 30 and Over Socer Program showed off their new home and away kits at this game as well.
