Riverside 4, Rocky River 3
The Beavers bounced back from a dreadful game against Medina, but it didn't come easy. Rocky River scored a shorthanded goal early in the first, and led 2-1 after one period while the Bees peppered goalie Devan Rose with 12 shots.
Riverside's defense stiffened, allowing 11 shots the rest of the game and Rose finished with 20 saves.
Senior Matt Crouse kept Riverside alive early, scoring on a breakaway while the Beavers were down two men on a Rocky River power play in the first period.
Freshman Michael Branem tied it, 2-2, with assists from Ryan Zawacki and Robert Stolz in the second period. Colten Siedlarczyk's goal with 1:07 left in the second gave Riverside the lead for good. Derek Cogar and David Shook had assists.
Ryan Zawacki's goal off a Shook shot four minutes into the third period provided a cushion the Beavers (4-1, 3-1) would need for the victory.
The Riverside power play produced just one goal in eight chances, but the Beavers held Rocky River to one goal in nine power-play opportunities.
