The North Royalton Bears blanked the Mayfield Wildcats on November 30th in game 3 of the 2013 Jr. Jacks Turkey Bowl Thanksgiving Tournament by the score of 4-0. Aaron Schmitt scored late in the opening period assisted by Branden Walsh and Preston Vinyard and then again early in the middle frame, this time on the power play and assisted by Michael Dzoba and Owen Lally. The Bears third and fourth goals were scored by Branden Walsh; his first was a tap in goal set up by Matt Brewer who took a pass from Steven Vinyard and then fed Walsh back door and his second was assisted by line mates Dzoba and Schmitt. Tyler Roesch (2 Periods/10 saves) and Marc Silver (1 period/6 saves) played solid in net for the Bears stopping all 16 Wildcat shots. As a result of winning all three round robin games the Bears will play in the tournament championship game tomorrow, December 1st at 1130AM in Cleveland Heights.
 The North Royalton Bears defeated the Cleveland Heights Tigers 3-0 on Friday, November 29th in game 2 of the 2013 Jr. Jacks Turkey Bowl Thanksgiving Tournament. The Bears controlled the pace of the game and despite putting 30 quality shots on goal only managed to put 3 past the Tigers net minder who played exceptionally well in the loss. The Bears scored one in the 1st period when Preston Vinyard’s shot from the blue line found the back of the net; picking up assists on the goal were Cameron Megazzini and Timmy Orlosky. The Bears offense briefly hibernated before waking back up in the final period when the Bears scored twice. Jeremy Gripp’s scored early in the 3rd, assisted by Orlosky, and Brandon Walsh’s redirect of a Michael Dzoba pass capped the scoring for North Royalton. Tyler Roesch played solid between the pipes for the Bears stopping all 17 shots he faced for his 2nd shutout of the season.
The North Royalton Bears blasted the Bay Village Rockets in the opening game of the 2013 Jr. Jacks Turkey Bowl Thanksgiving Tournament by the score of 16-0. The game only lasted 2 periods as per tournament rules; a goal difference of 8 or more goals in the 3rd period ends the game. North Royalton’s offensive attack fired 51 shots on goal in the shortened contest and featured 6 different goal scorers. Aaron Schmitt led all scorers with 4 goals and 6 assists followed closely by his line mates Branden Walsh and Michael Dzoba. Walsh netted 3 goals and assisted on 6 others while Dzoba had a hat trick and picked up 3 assists of his own. Cameron Megazzini, Owen Lally and Timmy Orlosky all added a pair of goals to complete the goal scoring. Megazzini also had a pair of assists while Lally and Orlosky each had a single helper. Also hitting the score sheet were freshman Logan Kieklak and sophomore Michael Schlegel, each with a pair of assists, as well as Peyton Matthews and Garry Burgett who each picked up a single assist. The Bears will return to play on Friday, November 29th facing off against the Cleveland Heights Tigers in Game 2 of the tournament- puck drops in Cleveland Heights at 7pm.
The North Royalton Bears opened their 2013/14 North Coast HS Hockey League regular season with an impressive 8-0 victory over the Brunswick/Elyria (B/E) Express on November 24th at Iceland USA in Strongsville. The Bears dominated all three periods out-shooting the Express 46-7 and despite out-shooting the Express 14-3 in the opening period, the Bears couldn't find the back of the net leaving the two teams scoreless after one period of play. North Royalton kept shooting and was finally able to solve the B/E net minder in the middle frame scoring 5 times- each goal by a different goal scorer. Cameron Megazzini got the scoring started knocking in a rebound from a Timmy Orlosky blast, also picking up an assist on the goal was Angelo Nero. Nero kept the scoring going taking a breakout pass from Orlosky and going the distance slipping one through the goalies pads for the Bears 2nd tally. The Bears next three goals were scored by Branden Walsh, Michael Dzoba and Aaron Schmitt – all three goals were netted on the power play. The Bears opened the final frame like they closed the middle one, on the power play and scoring- Walsh added his 2nd goal of the evening burying a beautiful pass from Schmitt, also picking up an assist on the goal was senior defenseman- Steven Vinyard. Timmy Orlosky picked up his 3rd point of the night and 1st goal of the game scoring with just under 5 minutes left in the game for the Bears 7th goal and Aaron Schmitt tallied his 2nd goal of the game, to go with 3 assists, with less than a minute left in the game for the Bears 8th and final score. Tyler Roesch backstopped the Bears stopping all 7 shots he faced earning his 1st shutout of the season.
The North Royalton Bears were defeated by the Riverside Beavers in non-league play, by the score of 4-2, on Sunday, November 17th. The Bears scored late in the opening period when AJ Bogdan buried a beautiful Aaron Schmitt pass for the only score of the 1st period. The two teams held one another scoreless in the middle frame leaving the Bears clinging to a 1-0 lead entering the final period. After Riverside tied the game at one goal apiece early in the 3rd, the Bears took a 2-1 lead when Dylan Kovach scored on the power play knocking in an Angelo Nero rebound. The final 3 minutes of the game belonged to Riverside as the Beavers scored three goals to secure the win. The Bears will hope to get back in the win column when they open regular season league play facing off against Brunswick/Elyria on November 24th at 540p at Iceland USA.
