Father's Day Raffle Winner

Posted by Robert Griffin, Jr at Jun 20, 2004 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
Father in Iraq is Five Hills Track & Field Club’s Raffle Benefactor The Five Hills Track & Field Club is on to something, just ask the winner of their Father’s Day Raffle, Jo Ann Canales. She’s a nursing student at the Central Texas College, and the wife of a deployed soldier serving in Iraq. Mrs. Canales is holding up the home front with daughters Alyssa (4), and Jasmine; a precious beauty at 11 months in their residence on West Fort Hood’s Montegue Village. Mrs. Canales purchased a raffle ticket to support the fund raising efforts headed by Michelle Martinez, the Clubs’ Fund Raising Chair. Coach Griffin called Mrs. Canales introducing himself first, and then informing her of her stroke of luck, which was met with a screeching sound of joy, excitement, and great belief. Mrs. Canales’ husband is SPC Canales assigned to C – Company, 20th Engineer Battalion, 1st Calvary Division. She’s trying to keep normalcy in the absence of her husband, spending quality time with her daughters while attending school for nursing. Coach Griffin invited Mrs. Canales to their track practice at S. C. Lee Junior School High in Copperas Cove, and upon her arrival and introduction. Mrs. Canales received an ovation and many friendly welcomes for being the raffle winner. Coach Griffin took Mrs. Canales on a guided tour of a progressive workout of his stable of sprinters. He explained the afforded opportunity of every athlete ability and desire to participate in their chosen Track & Field event. Mrs. Canales understood the rigorous training regimen the Five Hills Jack Rabbits had to endure to become competitive athletes. She was linked up with Mrs. Martinez to receive her prizes, which included a 99 – piece tool box donated from Cove’s Auto Zone, a $60.00 Red Lobster gift certificate, and a Limousine ride courtesy of Lil Rich’s Limousine Service of Copperas Cove. Mrs. Canales was very excited for her winnings, and the athletes whom she and others in the Central Texas Community supported during the raffle. The Club netted $502.03 for their raffling efforts, which will assist the club in paying for entrance fees. Mrs. Canales parted the Five Hills Track & Field Family environment wishing athletes good luck, while encouraging them to keep striving. Mrs. Canales may pull out the Auto Zone resourceful toolbox immediately, but her husband shall be greatly surprised upon his return on Morale Leave in mid August, as Lil Rich’s Limousine Service worked with her to postpone her luxury ride upon his return. Please keep this secret for one of our serving heroes; SPC Canales.

Mother's Day Raffle Winner

Posted by Robert Griffin, Jr at May 9, 2004 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
Hello Five Hills Jack Rabbits Club Family!!!

Sabrina reached for it, and Matthew called, "Mrs. Natalie Giles", as the winner of the 2004 Five Hills Track & Field Club's Mother's Day Raffle.

Mrs. Giles was excited, and we now refer to her as, "The Winner".  She's the mother of one of our explosive young sprinters, Jade Giles.  Mrs. Giles received her $60.00 Outback Steakhouse Gift certificate to use how she pleases, as she Hollywood up and ride through Killeen is a white stretched Limousine.  We know she shall smile all the way there with her chosen family members and associates (75 of us), just kidding.   Yes, the food experience, and grand entrance shall be memorable for the Giles family, and what we elect to do in promoting youth sports within community suppport.

One person name was called, yet in excess of 975 patrons from Belton, Harker Heights, Killeen, Fort Hood, Copperas Cove, and Kempner chose to support the area youth through our sports organization.

We also handed out awards for outstanding raffle performances.  Out performance incentive yielded two "Outstanding Rafflers".  Daniel Cabral and Ashley Darling were the top raffler and money gainer.  Young Daniel received a CD player to add to his personal collection of DVD and Games Station amongst his entertainment haven.  Ashley received a DVD Player to watch the latest movies and possible invite a few of us over to check out say, "Terminator"!!
Those two athletes exceeded their actual fees (when) if they attend every practice and qualifying meet in funds raffled, so they entire Texas AAU season shall be paid.  And yet they still generated enough funds to assist fellow teammates.  Danny and Ashley generated $188.00 between the two.  So, please thank them for reaally going out there to promote what we are doing for our Community Yoiuth.

The top raffling families were Coach Griffin (unfair advantage, he knows everyone), and 0rnelas family ( Who also knows everbody).  These two families generated $201 during ther raffling experience.  Though one did exceed the other, they agreed to not rub it in contend for the incentive award.  They agreed to bless the team larger families.  They also elected not have their kids (athletes) way paved throughout the 2004 Texas experience.

Kandance Sineway and Greta Smith were the next high rafling generating $80.00 between them, so we gave them a prize as well.

Now, after paying for the Limousine (Reduced Rate), (Outback Steakhouse was a Sponsprship gift), and the fours prizes, we netted $1, 075.00.  Yes, we raffled 1,206 raffle tickets, which totaled $1,256.00.

So, how that for a worth while experience?  So, expect to see Carmen Johnson standing in front of our athletes and coaches counting heads at track meets entrance gates as we pass along without a care until the well runs dry.

As a final note, we are still seeking sponsorship support throughout the Fort Hood, and surrounding communities for our youth.  If you know of any companies or business who like to support sports programs, please contact Jacqueline Griifin at 254-542-1904.

Thank You, and hold on to your seat belt; this train may slow down, but shall not stop.

GOD BLESS!!! image

We encourage aspiring 13 to 18-year old athletes to participate in their school’s UIL program and join a fine track & field tradition immediately following their school track season. The track clinics are opened to all ages, including adults. Come out and see how to properly run, sprint, hurdle, jump and throw. We believe in developing our athletes to engage in great competition well prepared. Volunteers are welcoming and encouraged. We ask parents and athletes to bring regular running shoes, a jump rope, and a video camera to savor some great developmental techniques.
