This year, we have decided to help a young football team from Gabon: they are living in a small village in the middle of the jungle, close to Libreville and we wanted to help them to enjoy playing football as we do, with some appropriately football stuff: we sent them some balls, jerseys and some mini goals. It¡¯s not a lot but it¡¯s very important for us ¡ Hope we could meet them one day and good luck for them.

Japan - Les Bleus

Posted by David Young at Jan 16, 2005 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )
We played well the first 20 mn, quite organized and with a few dangerous opportunities. The last 20 mn were dominated by the Japanese who show their collective skills but our defense was strong and could hold it though there could have been a penalty for the Japanese on Oumarou's tackle. The score was 0-0 at half time and it was quite a fair temporary result.

We started better the second half-time (switching from 4-4-2 to 4-3-1-2). We had the possession of the ball and in one of our attacks, big mess near their penalty area. Amer, then Alex and finally Jerome succeed to shoot the ball between hundreds of legs. The ball hits the spot and bounced along the line. The goalkeeper just stop it but we cannot see if it had entered or not ? Hesitation and finally the referee gave us the goal. Les Bleus were leading 1-0 !!
Well, the Japanese had the rage and put pressure. There was still lots of time to play and we were trying to resist and hold the score. We played too low and give back the ball to easily because we wanted to have some "air" but the truth is : it is coming back all the time. Then our concentration diminishes (probably linked with tiredness) and Japanese got a free kick just before the penalty area line. Wonderful shot and it was 1-1, our moral was down because we tought we could have ended the game 1-0.
And almost 5 mn later, they score a second goal, a volley from a japanese following a collective movement. It was hard to take for us : 10 mn and 2 goals. Finally it ended 3-1 as the last goal is a mistake from Edu who made his own hara kiri by giving the ball directly to a japanese player.

Final Score : Japan 3 - Les Bleus 1

The serie is over. We could have won but the Japanese fought back well after our goal. They played better than us with passes, were more physical and had stronger mental spirit.  They deserved their victory. Hope Les Bleus will
rebound quickly and start another serie soon.

Les Bleus - Azzuri

Posted by David Young at Jan 16, 2005 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )
1st half-time.
We played in 4-4-2 and when we have possession of the ball, we were trying to play calmly with good passes. But when Italians attacked, don't know exactly why but we
were feeling not well positioned on the pitch. There was a problem of organization but hard to correct while we are playing. Anyway, The game was quite balanced, then we scored thanks to Amer who has been opportunist. On a mess near their penalty kick (attempt from Bertrand, head of Max), Amer got the ball and with full of realism made a sort of lob-shot. It was in and we were leading 1-0 though we could not say that we really deserve it ...

The entry of fresh players in the last 20 mn made a big difference. Actually at this time we played quite in 4-3-1-2 and always succeed to win the ball at the midfield, we
were also reorganized better. So we played very good football at this moment, Loic sent a nice long ball to Alex (our trial player) who was in full run. He anticipated that the goalkeeper  will try to catch the ball, and made a nice exterior shot in the empty cage. We were leading 2-0 and is was fully deserved this time.
We continued to put pressure and make nice movements and passes as we were still very well organized. A long changing shot ball from one side to another side from Michel and Amer and Loic were two at the reception. The goalkeeper was beaten by a dribble but there has been a hesitation, finally Loic took the ball and shot at empty cage. 3-0 at first half-time, we can think that we may have killed the match by this third goal but be careful, still 45 mn to go ...
2nd half time and back to 4-4-2.
The first 20 mn were for Italians, they played better than us. We spent most of our time on defending, probably because we lead 3-0. So,
we make less mental efforts to go forward. But we stay concentrated and they didn't succeed to score. We were proceeding more by counter attack, which is quite logical. The problem in counter attacking, is that you cannot always play with depth passes or our forward players should not always run in front but sometimes better "horizontally". This problem has been met in several of our games where our players are always offside.
Finally, there has been one perfect counter attack from Max. He was on the left and decided not to give again a depth pass,
instead he's seen Christophe in the midfield. Christophe had made a nice movement not in front but almot "behind" to stay alone and receive the pass, he ran from left to right and gave the ball to David. David on one touch gave it accurately to Amer who could run alone and face the goalkeeper, he didn't miss the chance and with lots of composure, striked the FOURTH GOAL (and a double for him) !! 4-0 !!
It was definitely over for Italians. We got several other chances to score, finally Azzurri made a consolation goal on one of their counter attacks (it is more because we were not concentrated, a bit like the 3rd goal of Anzacs when we won 7-3).
Final score Les Bleus 4 - Azzurri 1

We made it, FOURTH VICTORY IN A ROW !! Congratulations to everybody for this nice first half-season.
5 Victories (Orange, Vikings, United, Anzacs, Azzurri)
1 Draw (Voodoo)
3 Lost (Shooter, Japan, Koreans)
1 Game reported (Germans)

It had the potential to even be better because our defeat agains Koreans and our draw against Voodoo arghhhhh what a pity ... (players who were present know it). But at least, we learnt from this defeat and this draw, we can be satisfied of what happened afterwards.

LET'S NOT STOP HERE AND LET'S DO EVEN BETTER IN 2005 !!
LES BLEUS HATE TO DRAW OR LOOSE NOW, THEY ENJOYED THE DELICIOUS TASTE OF VICTORIES AND WILL BE
STILL VERY THIRSTY AND HUNGRY IN 2005 !!!

Les Bleus-Anzacs

Posted by David Young at Dec 6, 2004 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )

We played in
4-4-2 and started against the wind. The playing style of Anzacs is 10 players camping on their side, playing offside and counter attacking. Actually, they can only be really dangerous on free kicks. They made us play in a sleepy way with a slow rythm. Olivier C., our special guest, got several missed chances and finally scored on a run, followed by a brilliant distant shot. 1-0 for Les BleusThough we were leading, Les Bleus were playing passively and not tactically good against this kind of organization. Anzacs got a free kick, shot it and it was bounced by the post. Firstly we are not concentrated on the free kick and secondly, we are passive because one anzac takes the ball rebounced and equalized at short distance : it is a bad goal for us and score 1-1.

Fortunatelly, we took the lead again thanks to a duel with Olivier C. and an Anzacs player who touched the ball with his hand. Referee whistled penalty that Greg scored. 2-1 for Les Bleus. No other real good chance for us until end of first half-time. We felt that Anzacs are really the weakest team of the league but we were a bit frustrated because we didn't play the best way. We were leading only by one goal ....

Second half-time with wind for us, actually wind is an important factor sometimes !! Just 5 or 10 mn and Anzacs got another free kick near the corner post. Against this kind of team who don't have dangereous individual players, we must not make fouls in our 25 m because it gave them the only chances to score. They didn't miss the chance : a high shot not very dangerous but Willy miscalculated the trajectory and has been lobbed. They equalized again 2-2 and it was a cold shower that could create bit of anxiety or doubts. Fortunatelly there was plenty of time left and wind was for us. The anzacs had really lots of difficulties to go on our side and Les Bleus were playing very very high (21 players in one half-side). David played 1-2 pass with Greg who gave him back, he continued the run and made a brilliant high curving shot.
Les Bleus were leading again 3-2, actually it was the goal of the relief and the announcement of the rain goals series. Jerome on a counter, continued the run and scored on empty cage 4-2, Loic on a quite identical 1-2 pass with Greg scored with a ground level shot 5-2. Then Jerome again, with again a pass from Greg (3 decisives passes !) 6-2 !! We said in first half time that we played too much in depth passes and that we should do more 1-2 passes, it has been applied in 2nd half-time.
Leading 6-2, we can understand that everybody was not fully concentrated, our defense too relaxed made a mistake and an Anzacs player counter attacked alone and reduced the score 6-3. To add a cherry on the cake, Christophe made it 7-3 by a splendid head on a nice centre from Andrezj.

We took 3 goals which is not good but we succeeded to score 7, which is excellent for the mood !! More goals in this 8th game than in all the 7 games before ... Anyway, THE SERIES CONTINUE : 3RD VICTORY IN A ROW ! WE HAVE WINNING SPIRIT NOW. LES BLEUS DON'T WANT TO DRAW ANY MORE, DON'T WANT TO LOOSE ANY MORE :)

Final score Les Bleus 7 - Anzacs 3
