PRACTICE FOR THE FINAL WEEK: TUESDAY 6pm @ LOS OSOS WEDNESDAY 6:30 @ RHN THURSDAY 5:30 @ RHN GAMES VERY LIKELY ON FRIDAY AFTERNOON OR NIGHT!!! TEAM SILVER WELCOMES EMILY TO SUPPLEMENT OUR SHORT ROSTER. EM IS A FORMER KABOOM PLAYER AND HAS PLAYED WITH COACH CHRIS ON THE 8U STORM TEAM. SHE WILL FIT RIGHT IN AND MAKE US EVEN TOUGHER TO TAKE DOWN. Santa Paula Results: Team Silver gets to the Semi Finals. Big win on Sunday morning over Sylmar gets RC Silver its second playoff appearance and second top 4 or better finish. Silver team is very consistent with its 4th 2nd place pool finish. Good defensive plays some throwbacks/pick plays and pitchouts highlighted the teams development and progress. Pool party was a blast and the Santa Paula organization gave the Silver kudos for their solid play and class parents. RANCHO CUCAMONGA HOST TOURNEY RESULTS: THANKS TO ALL THE PARENTS FOR HOSTING A SUCCESSFUL TOURNEY, ALOT OF HARD WORK AND SOME TOUGH LOSS GAMES. Great come from behind win vs. tough Carlsbad Gold team. Tough luck loss to Fallbrook got the Silver the number 2 seed to face a very tough Ramona pitcher. Ramona ended up going to the finals so no shame in losing to the Finalist. VENTURA RESULTS: Another solid 2nd place in the pool got the 10U Silver team to a consecutive Sunday playoff appearance. Tough back to back losses to Camarillo 2-1 and a very strong PYL 3-1 (A or Storm team) on Sunday ended the run...but falling short didnt tell the story of the quality ball the girls played. Several double plays/running the scripted Defense schemes to perfection, continued consistent pitching were keys to exciting games. May get a rematch with Camarillo at the Santa Paula tourney!!! La Habra Tourney Results: 2nd Seed in Pool C and a quality win over the Diamond Bar A team got the Silver team into Sunday's Elite 8. Tough well played loss to Fullerton A, but you girls got great compliments from both the LaMirada and Fullerton teams. You exceeded our expectations and the Coaching staff had alot of fun watching you develop in game situations. Coach Chris will post Tourney highlights in the Site News section ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Thanks to Terri, Shelly and Carmen for helping us with our team gear and getting us line up for our tourneys. Santa Paula Highlights

Posted by Chris Young at Jun 25, 2007 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
Just like our own Rancho Tourney, Team Silver gets a tough draw out of the gate. El Rio was big and strong and had solid pitching. Similar to Ramona and PYL the Silver team kept it close but late pressure cracked the tough D. Steph pitches a solid game and a great catch and throw home by our team Captain Amanda were fun to watch. Failure to lay bunts down hurt some threats. The offense never really generated any pressure on the El Rio D. Camarillo becomes a completely different story. The Silver does a great job on waiting on slower pitching. Driving the ball hard thru the gaps and solid/aggressive base running get the Silver their biggest offensive game of the season. Morning games usually present problems for the Silver team but against Sylmar the hot hitting continued. Great plays by Sylmar infield kept a hard quick start at bay. Sam takes control of the game with great pitching. The changeup was on and the big hitters of Sylmar were off balance. Solid catching by Anaya threw a few runners out and with Steph back at short the infield held Sylmar to only 1 run. A tough Santa Paula pitcher cools the offense down. Silver makes contact but does not drive the ball thru the infield gaps and the few solid hits we had were backed by a solid SP defense. Sam continued to be the hot hand and Steph anchors the D. Toni and Smalls make some solid plays on the right side to keep it close but too many sticks late in the game get to a tiring Sam. Red D worked well and Silver almost pulls off a deke play at third. Sam/Anaya and Steph nail a runner on a great pitchout play. Overall great tourney. Team is growing, girls are playing very smart and there were some excellent plays all weekend to entertain the Coaches and Parents. Silver has been a class act all season and many teams have recognized both the parents and these kids!!! Kudos to Acosta family for driving up Sunday ready to play in the final. Well at least we had a nice lunch on the way back. Pool party was a blast...someone get Coach Chris some deck shoes...NO RUNNING IN THE POOL AREA ;-) PS Steve still in line waiting for the Police Concert to start

Ventura Tourney Highlights

Friday Night Game 1 Pool Play: A sluggish start had the Silver team down as late as the 4th inning 3-2. Top of the order woke up and doubles by Domonique and Amanda get the rally started. Key bunts and hits by the middle and bottom of the order force a game deciding 4 run inning to almost lock Thousand Oaks out. Solid pitching by Sam and getting the changeup going threw the TO hitters for a loop and shut them down after their big inning in the 2nd. Saturday Game 2 Pool Play: A defensive gem, the Silver team nearly shutout a well coached Fillmore squad. Bunt coverage and some good throwouts by Anaya kept Fillmore from making something from "small ball". Sami gets a key hit in the 3rd inning with bases loaded to drive in 2 and stretch the lead to 4-0. Steph pitches solid and makes some great defensive plays on bunts and pop ups to close the game. Both Hailey's do a solid job on the left side and the outfield made a couple of good catches on deep flyballs. SILVER LOCKS DOWN PLAYOFF SPOT SECOND WEEK IN A ROW!!! Sunday Game 3 Pool Play: Tough game. Lack of timely hitting and bad baserunning cost the Silver team a chance to sweep the pool. Mental errors in one inning erased many great plays and great coverage schemes. Sam takes an undeserved loss with a stellar pitching effort. Not much to say on this one, Coach Chris also blows it by not sticking to the plan and mixing things up too much. Clearly should have had this one (positioning your self in bracket play influences what road you take to get to the finals). To Camarillo's credit they had good D and their pitchers command of a floating changeup killed the Silver bat threats. Hailey M. had a great run driving triple with no out but then got stranded...thats how tough things went that AM. Failure to put key bunts down cost the Silver two runs. Sunday Game 4 Elimination: Silver wakes up and keeps a Gold like PYL team within reach. Gold pitcher at first over powers the Silver bats but the bats wake up later on. Gold hitters keep the pressure on and get a few runs but not without having to work hard and earn them. Great D saw the Silver turn two double plays. A third to first to home shutdown a big PYL threat and a home plate play and then throw to second shut down another threat. Game could have been a 7-0 type game but Silver hangs tough, gets two back to back hits in inning 5 to threaten and then Alexus hits a sharp single to score Sierra who put the ball in play all weekend. Good D by Toni, Sami and Hailey A. Hailey M hangs tough at third and takes a few hard shots. Anaya was tough behind the plate all week and caught a few pop ups. The irony was by far one of the best games played. If there is such a thing as a quality loss this was it. The Silver team learned alot and was pushed the entire game by a perennial powerhouse type team. Thanks to several of the gold players and parents for your support...that didnt go un-noticed and Im sure the Silver girls got an extra boost from it. Overall a fantastic weekend the parents were great, the Team Dinner Saturday night was alot of fun. Thanks to the coaching staff Bernie/Frank/Raul and Team Mom Rae for all their hard work. Big travel tourneys arent successful without alot of pre-planning and parental support. I appreciate everyone staying in one central location (props to Shelley Wilcox for the recommendation) it made logistics very efficient!!! Coach Chris

La Habra Silver Star Highlights

Posted by Chris Young at Jun 3, 2007 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
Game 1: Against a strong LaMirada B team that ultimately took our ACE A team out, we started a bit nervous and fell behind quick 3-0. Executing RED D may have kept it to 1 or 2-0 but we did not hit enough to make it interesting. Team did a great job making contact, a few opportunities were lost with suspect base running. Overall, team settled down (Sam locked in on pitching and the D shut La Mirada down the rest of the way), girls kept their heads up and showed alot of heart/character keeping it close. LaMirada coaching staff complimented the girls. Game 2: Big wakeup call has the bats putting the pressure on and forcing West Valley errors. A quick run of 5 runs in the 2nd inning set the tone (great bunts Alexus/Sam/Steph and small ball set up a throwing error that scored 3 runs on a Dominique hit). Solid pitching by Steph and some great plays shut out West Valley. Big hits by Sami and Anaya drive in a few runs to seal the number 2 seed. Game 3: Coaching staff rolls with Steph's hot hand on the hill. Quick 3 run inning with hits from Toni/Dominique/Sami get the Silver the lead it needed to allow the D to shut down Diamond Bar threats. Key timeout call stranded runners on 2nd and 3rd with a Toni unassisted double play. Diamond Bar pitching similar to the LaMirada game settles down but ACE Silver doest not allow a comeback. Hailey Arteaga plays GREAT 3b and hit a flyball to left center that got caught by the DB center fielder or Silver would have had a real big inning in the first. Great win over a solid A/Gold team Game 4: Silver jumps out in front with great bunt and run by Amanda/Toni. Sam keeps it close with accurate pitching, allowing NO walks!!! Solid D kept Fullerton threats at bay. In the first and fourth inning big plays stop big innings. Silver had chance to go up 2 to 1 with two runners on one out but unlike game 2 and 3 we didnt get the bunt down or key hit (runners at 2nd/3rd with one out). Overall Fullerton hitting put too much consistent pressure and a few errors in the last inning finally got the Silver team. Game really could have gone either way with a big hit here or there. Sam did a great job of making our D make plays and keeping us in the game. Overall best hitters were Sami and Anaya (near 500 for the tourney) driving in runs with key hits. Alexus/Steph and Amanda drop some timely bunts. Top D goes to Hailey A and Double Play Toni Weekend MVP goes to Steph for pitching both the wins and out dueling the Gold Diamond Bar pitcher.
