HHS DEFEATS STATION CAMP 3-0

Junior Will Wacaser carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning and ended the game with a shut-out striking out 7 Bison hitters to lead the Commandos past Station Camp. 

Sophomore Thomas Zazzaro matched Wacaser pitch for pitch for most of the game until the 5th inning when the score was 0-0 and HHS finally broke through with a run. 

Justin Long struck out to lead off the 5th but reached first base on an errant throw after a dropped third strike.  Connor Fischer hit an infield single to put runners at first and third after Long had stolen second.  An intentional walk to Ben Smith loaded the bases with two outs.  With two strikes Grant Williams came through with a two-run single to give HHS a 2-0 lead.

The Commandos would add an insurance run in the top of the sixth as Braden Schwerdt hit a two-out single to score Jarcques Wordlaw from second base to give the game its final score of 3-0.

Wacaser was dominant on the night, allowing only two runners to reach second base in picking up his first win of the year.  The win moves HHS to 9-2 overall and 2-1 in district play.

HHS DEFEATS WHITE HOUSE 9-1

The Commandos bounced back for a win over the Blue Devils with a strong pitching performance from Senior Alec Nelson helping HHS to a 9-1 win in the Wilson County Invitational.

Nelson carried a no-hitter into the 5th inning when a Jim Joyce type call at first base gave the Blue Devils their first hit of the game.  Nelson would allow a run and a real hit in the top of the 6th, his only dent in an otherwise sparkling outing.

Nelson got all the support he needed in the bottom of the first inning when HHS scored 6 times on 5 hits including RBI doubles from Drew Richard, Justin Long and Jarcques Wordlaw.   Long also added a triple on the day and Wordlaw had two hits along with Grant Williams to get HHS back on the winning track after losing the day before.  Will Wacaser pitched a scoreless 7th in relief of Nelson.

HHS DEFEATS FRIENDSHIP CHRISTIAN 10-3

The Commandos and the Commanders met for their yearly battle in the Wilson County Invitational with HHS coming out on top 10-3. 

It was a back and forth game early as two HHS errors led to two Friendship runs in the bottom of the first after HHS had led 1-0 thanks to a two out double from Ben Smith and an RBI single from Grant Williams.  

With Friendship leading 2-1 HHS bounced back for four runs in the top of the second.  Jarcques Wordlaw led off with his first of three hits on the day.  Wordlaw moved to second on a wild pitch, third on a pass ball and scored on a wild pitch to tie the game 2-2.  A walk to Braden Schwerdt was followed with a sac bunt by Justin Long with was thrown away at first to put runners at first and second with one out.  Connor Fischer laid down a sac bunt which was mishandled to load the bases.  A single from Drew Richard scored a run and a grounder from Ben Smith scored a run to make the score 5-2 HHS.  Friendship got their final run of the game in the bottom of the second to make the score 5-3.  HHS added another run in the top of the third as Wordlaw singled with one out, moved to second on a wild pitch, stole third and scored on an errant throw from the Friendship catcher to make the score 6-3.

The score would stay 6-3 til the top of the 6th when HHS would put 5 runs on the board to put the game away.  Fischer walked and stole second to lead off the inning.  A walk to Richard was followed by a three-run homer from Grant Williams, his first of the year to make the score 9-3.  Austin Brown  doubled off the right center field wall and moved to third on a wild pitch.  Brown scored on Wordlaws third hit of the game to make the score 10-3.  

Austin Brown went five strong innings on the mound, allowing one earned run on three hits while striking out 7.  Matt Nicoll got a strikeout when he came on in relief to face one Friendship hitter in the 6th and Senior Matthew Osborne closed the game out with 1 and 2/3 innings of scoreless relief while striking out 2.

HHS LOSES TO SUMMITT 7-5

The Summitt Spartans gave the Commandos their first loss in the Wilson County Invitational in two years by jumping out to an early 5-1 lead and holding on for a 7-5 win.

HHS rallied back to bring the tying run to the plate in the bottom of the 7th but the rally fell short.

Senior Ethan White provided great work on the mound in relief giving the Commandos a chance to come back.  White pitched five innings allowing 2 hits and 2 runs after entering the game in the third inning.

Austin Brown had a single and a double and two RBIs in the loss.

HHS DEFEATS DEKALB COUNTY 5-2

The Commandos opened play in the Wilson County Invitational with a win over Dekalb County 5-2 at Friendship Christian.  It was the second meeting in as many years between the two schools in the tournament.

Junior left-hander Brandon Fuller picked up his second win of the year on the mound with a strong five innings.  Fuller allowed one earned run which scored on a wild pitch and three hits while striking out seven Dekalb hitters.

HHS never trailed in the game and got the lead in the top of the second.  Grant Williams doubled to right center to lead off the inning.  Williams scored on an rbi single from Braden Schwerdt to give HHS a 1-0 lead. 

After Dekalb tied the game in the bottom of the third the Commandos would regain the lead in the top of the fifth.  A leadoff walk to Austin Winter was followed by a wild pitch which advanced courtesey runner Aris Welden to second base.  A throwing error by the Dekalb catcher sent Welden to third and an rbi single from Andrew Larson scored Welden to give the Commandos a 2-1 lead.  Larson stole second and later scored on a two-out single by Austin Brown to make the score 3-1.  HHS would score again in the top of the 6th to put the game out of reach.  Grant Williams was hit by a pitch for the second time in the game to lead off the inning.  Williams advanced to second on a single from Schwerdt.  An Austin Winter bunt single loaded the bases for Andrew Larson.  Larson hit a sacrifice fly to center field to drive in pinch runner Jon Swindle to make the score 4-2.  Schwerdt moved to third on the sac fly and scored on the next pitch as Drew Richard laid down a squeeze bunt to score Schwerdt and give the game its final score of 5-2.

Sophomore Andrew Dorris recorded his first career save by pitching the games final two innings.  Dorris allowed one unearned run while giving up two hits and striking out a hitter in his two innings of work to preserve the win for Fuller.
