HHS DEFEATS OVERTON 5-1

Posted by Andy Gilley on Apr 12 2017 at 05:00PM PDT

The Commandos used a solid pitching performance from Hayden Layne and Kobe Carter combined with 3 hits each from Gabe Dalton and Harrison Williams to defeat the Bobcats at Overton on Thursday afternoon.

Layne improved to 2-0 on the year going 4 and 2/3 innings allowing one unearned run while striking out six.  Carter picked up his fourth save of the year striking out two in 1 and 1/3 IP.

The Commandos grabbed the lead in the top of the second as Caid Sanders picked up his first career hit, a double and scored on an RBI grounder off the bat of Nate Vaughn.

In the top of the third HHS would extend the lead.  A one out double from Williams was followed by back to back singles from Hayden Layne and Gabe Dalton to make the score 2-0.  Sanders singled in Dalton to make it 3-0.

Williams would score his second run of the game in the top of the 5th as he led off with a single, moved to second on a sac bunt and scored on Gabe Dalton's second hit of the game to make the score 4-0.

Overton would threaten in the fifth.  The leadoff man for the Bobcats reached on an error, but Layne got the next two hitters to strike out.  However, back to back singles made the score 4-1 and brought Eric Altizer into the game with the tying run at the plate. Altizer got a pop up to left to end the threat.

A walk and a double led to another scoring threat for Overton in the bottom of the sixth, but Kobe Carter came on out of the bulpen to record a strikeout to end the inning and keep the score 4-1.

HHS would score the game's final run in the top of the seventh.  Williams singled and came around to score on a Sac Fly from Caid Sanders to make the score 5-1. Carter retired Overton in the bottom of the seventh to pick up the save, his fourth of the year.

With the win HHS improves to 14-4 on the year.
