HHS DEFEATS PORTLAND 8-0

Posted by Andy Gilley on Apr 10 2017 at 05:00PM PDT

Portland got a base hit on the first pitch of the game on Tuesday night off of Sophomore right hander Cameron Hansen but that was the only hit Hansen would allow for the entire game.  Hansen struck out 14 Panthers in a dominant complete game performance as the Commandos openened play in the North Division of 9AAA with an 8-0 win over Portland.

The Commandos scored two in the bottom of the first and Austin Mays led off with a single and scored on a triple from Brett Coker.  Coker scored on an RBI grounder off the bat of Hayden Layne to make the score 2-0.

That was all the support Hansen would need.  The Sophomore struck out 10 out of the first 14 hitters he faced  and used his defense in the middle innings to pick up his fourth win of the year.

Mays led the Commando offense with three hits, Coker, Austin Halas and Gabe Dalton added two a piece, while Hayden Layne drove in two runs.

With the win HHS improves to 12-4 on the year, 4-1 in District 9AAA and 1-0 in the Northern Division.  The Commandos will next play at Portland on Tuesday at 6:00.
