Game 2: Lamar over Clear Lake 83-73

On the anniversary of the dedication of Krueger Field House (11 years ago), the Falcons traveled to Houston Lamar to do battle with their HISD opponents in the old, dimly lit, crowded Lamar gym. This game was an extremely fast paced, intense basketball game characteristic of the rivalry between these two teams. With the exception of some sub-par officiating at times, this was an exciting game to watch.

Lamar's premier guard, Tamir Bynum, racked up 44 points against the noticeably good, but inadequate defense of Clear Lake. This will go down as one of the greatest offensive performances against a Lake team. There have been only a handful of opponents who have scored over 40 on Lake. Thomas Walkup from Deer Park and Alvin Franklin come to mind. In case you are wondering - the highest score achieved by a Lake opponent was Artie Griffin (San Antonio Lee High School),  who scored 52 points on Lake in a San Antonio tournament in 1990.

Speaking of records. Lake might have set a record for the number of missed shots from within 2 feet of the basket in this game.

Combining Tamir's output with the impressive athleticism of #3, Myles Burns, who racked in 18 pts, it was just too much for the Falcons to handle at times. For the math geeks in the crowd, yes two players did 75% of the scoring for Lamar.

Clear Lake will face very few opponents this season who can withstand the intensity of a game like this Lamar game.
