Friday, February 9, 2018 - Clear Lake 65 - Clear Creek 55

Friday night in Carlisle Field House another great basketball game between these two teams was added to the history books in a rivalry that stretches back to 1972. In what everyone knew would be a tough, grind it out contest, the Clear Lake Falcons and the Clear Creek Wildcats showed fans what the rivalry between these two schools looks like up close. With playoff berth positions on the line for both teams, this was a must win game. In the first round game between these old rivals, the Wildcats prevailed by 4 points. Fortunately the Falcons prevailed tonight.

In their last regular season road game, the Falcons were quite a ways from playing as well as they can but it was enough. Barely 56% free throw shooting (15/27) and 9 turnovers so the Lake squad has some homework to do if they hope to advance in the playoffs. Fortunately, Creek only shot 42% from the stripe.

The fans were treated to standout performances from Jeremiah Maldonado (20 points and 11 rebounds) and Zaid Harris (10 points and 7 rebs.). Ajare Sanni had 15 points and Riley Abercrombie had 12. Other players had a significant impact on the outcome of the game that cannot be measured in points scored. Jamail Pink still missing from the lineup due to prior illness.

Speaking of playoffs, for those who might not understand how the playoffs are set up, go to the "General Information" Section (click on menu item above) and choose "Region III Playoff General Information". Here you will find a complete explanation of the basketball playoff scheme for Texas 6A schools. The playoffs will start one week after the Lake-Springs game.

A victory over Clear Springs Tuesday night will seal the deal for the Falcons and make them District 24 6A Champions. Clear Lake is now 28-5, 11-2.
