Senators Will Annually Offer Releases to ALL Players

Posted by N Frese on Jan 15 2008 at 04:00PM PST

This policy statement is issued out of respect for all the men who play for the Washington Township Senators Baseball Club. It has more or less been my policy throughout my years of running the teams, but this is the first time I am stating it publicly and defining specific parameters.

Between the dates of November 1 and November 30 each year, every player on the roster of the 18+, 25+, 35+ and 45+ Senators will receive, if requested, a release from his league-mandated obligation to play for the Senators the following baseball season. Players will thereafter be free to negotiate with and/or play for any team in the SJMSBL they so choose.

This stance is taken for one reason only: because I believe that my players should be free each year to choose the team for which they wish to play. It is my fond hope that ALL of them will choose to play for the Senators, of course. But if they do not, they WILL be released with a smile, a handshake, and my thanks for the efforts they gave in their time as Senators. The only reason I am putting any time frame whatsoever on this is so that everyone knows, early on, where they stand. I think that's only fair to both the players and management.

Finally, I trust the other managers in this league to not go on a "mass player-stealing" mission, and I challenge them all follow suit and make this same promise to their players. It is clear to me that everyone in the league deserves this same right.
