Vikings Beat Benedictine and Shut-Out Parma!

Saturday, January 12

The Vikings defeated Benedictine by a score of 7 to 2 on Saturday night at Cleveland Heights Recreation Center.  Korey Davis looked sharp in the net only letting in 2 goals from a small but tenacious Benedictine squad.  With only 8 skaters and a goalie, Benedictine played hard and gave the Vikings a great game.

The first period saw two Hoover goals, both scored by Brad Harcourt, with assists coming from Zach Lawson, Dylan Oney and Spencer Mackert.  Five minutes into the second period, Harcourt scored again, assisted by Oney.  Benedictine answered but was shut down quickly with another Viking goal scored by Zach Lawson, assisted by John Derosiers and Dylan Oney.  With 1:34 left in the first, Alec Weber let go a slapshot to bring the score to 5 - 1 going into the third.

Lawson scored two goals in the third, and Benedictine was only able to put one past the Hoover netminder - final score:  7-2.

An away game in Parma at 8:45pm brought goalie Kirk Greenho a shutout with a final score of 4-0.  A scoreless first period made Viking fans anxious, as a win in this game would bring the Vikings back into the first place position in the league.

Fans would have to wait until just under three minutes to go in the second period before Dylan Oney put the first puck past the Parma net.  Brad Harcourt quickly followed, bringing the score to 2-0 Hoover after two.  Assists were earned by John Derosiers and Zach Lawson.  The third period saw two more goals - both from Harcourt, assisted by Dylan Oney, Zach Lawson and Alex Zielke.  Tough defensive play by Spencer Mackert and Ben Bishop contributed to the shut out along with Greenho's excellent netminding.

Next up for the Vikings is Friday night against Aurora in a league game, followed by the Parma MLK tournament this weekend featuring games against Parma. CVCA and Holy Name JV.  Come out and support our Vikings at home this Friday.  Puck drops at 5:45!
