COUGARS COMEBACK!

Posted by Charlie Cleaves on Dec 09 2003 at 04:00PM PST
The Cougars rebounded from Saturday's loss to Coronado in the opening game of the Barons Tournament, with a dramatic 3-2 win over Chula Vista at the Steele Canyon Women's Soccer Complex. The Cougars led 1-0 at halftime following LISA MIX's breakaway goal from the first of many quality through balls from COURTNEY CLEAVES. In the second half, Chula Vista scored on two breakaway goals that left the Cougars stunned, and down 2-1. In the 63rd minute, LISA MIX delivered a corner kick perfectly to BECCA SANDERS in front of the goal that BECCA headed into the net to tie the match 2-2. For the next 17 minutes, the Cougars pounced on the goal, but failed to find the net on many point blank shots on the goal. With time under 3 minutes, MEGAN VARNEY found LISA MIX in front of the goal, and LISA beat the keeper for the game winner! SUZANNE MACNAUGHTON playing in her usual star-killer rule shadowed and defended Chula Vista's incredible forward all night and saved the game with a brillant run and tackle in the final minute! Next up, Santa Fe Christian!
