La Mirada High School

Seeking to re-claim the Suburban League title, the Lady Mats (5-0) opened league competition with a victory over Glenn and Artesia at Cerritos Regional Park. Taking the lead this week was VANESSA THOMAS, who finished the 3-mile course in a personal best of 21:30. Vanessa was followed by Amber Morrison (2^nd place), Christina Bird (3^rd place), Gretchen Witowich (4^th place) and Audrey Serrata (5^th place). The gap between the 1^st and 5^th place runners was only 18 seconds! Next week the Matadores face the defending Suburban League Champion Bellflower team at La Mirada Regional Park.

Freshman Nathaniel Moore (17:08) finished 13 seconds ahead of the pack in the boys varsity race. Unfortunately the closest Matadore runner was over 1 minute behind Nathaniel, as the boy’s team was defeated by both Artesia and Glenn High Schools.

The boy’s Frosh-Soph team defeated both Artesia and Glenn. Congratulations to Freddy Ramirez on his 1^st place finish!
