Sweep of Sheboygan Eludes Nationals

Posted by Steve Elliott on Jul 06 2017 at 05:00PM PDT in 2019 Season

In the midst of the drama of whether the ballpark lights would stay on or off some exciting and spirited baseball was played Thursday night at Kuenn Field in West Allis.   The Nats rallied for 11 runs to overcome a 4-0 deficit in game one to down the Sheboygan A's 11-6.   In game two, the Nats rallied for 4 runs in the final inning and put runners on second and third with one out, but came up just short, falling 5-4.

Johnny Keane's third homer of the year sparked the game winning, six run sixth inning rally in game one. Evan Spry, Adam Cibulka, Chase Scharnek, and Kyle Kalkopf also knocked in runs.

The A's put up 5 early runs in game two, capitalizing on a defensive miscue and a couple wild pitches, to take and early 5-0 lead.   The potent game one offense of the Nats wasn't present during the first four innings as the team was held hitless.   In the last inning, the Nats sent 10 men to the plate but came up just short when Adam Cibulka's fly to left center was snared on the warning track to end the game.

Next up for the Nationals are the DePere Dodgers on Saturday at 330pm at Regner Park in West Bend.  The team then plays a 10am Sunday game in Sheboygan vs Lombard followed by a 430pm tilt against Addison at Aaron Field in Milwaukee.
