At Upward Stars we intentionally focus on the 360 Progression™, the development of the total athlete: mentally, athletically, spiritually, and socially. We recognize that each athlete has individual skills and needs, so we place priority on meeting each athlete where they are and helping them reach their potential.
Upward Stars believes that playing sports should be a life-changing experience that prepares young athletes for success on and off the court. Fun is not sacrificed for improvement and improvement is not sacrificed for fun. We place a priority on both, and push athletes to succeed and improve, while enjoying the process.

My name is Joe Herrera and I live in Sharpsburg with my wife Kristina Herrera of 21 years. We have 3 kids Joey(14) Emily (11) and Jacob 2 1/2. I have been coaching volleyball for 14 years. I have coached from the elementary level all the way to college. I have also coached club for 12 years as well in different age groups. I’m in my 2nd year as the Varsity and JV coach at Trinity Christian School in Sharpsburg, GA. The TCS Varsity team finished state runner-ups in 2015 and State Champs in 2016 in GISA.
My name is Russell Aguirre and I live in Palmetto with my wife Emily Aguirre. We have 4 boys, Russell Shane, Nathan, Michael, and Brady. I have been coaching volleyball for 10 years. I have coached from the elementary level all the way to high school. I grew up playing club volleyball and played for Southern Storm Boys Volleyball Club in Atlanta. I have been coaching club since 2009 at various age groups, with my best season finish in 2013 with Southern Spirit Volleyball where our 13-1’s team were the Runner-Ups in SRVA. Currently I’m the Varsity Assistant Volleyball Coach and Middle School Volleyball Coordinator at Landmark Christian School in Fairburn, GA.
