Time and Rules

Posted by Jason Kelson on Dec 30 2008 at 03:18AM PST

I only have a few rules for the team one is to be dressed up for an away game. We are representing our school at a visiting gym and I would like the players to present themselves in a professional manner. If they are not dressed I will not be letting them play for the first quarter for the first offense unless the other players need a substitution. The second offense will be for the first half and so on. The second thing I would like to see is that the players arrive early before a practice and a game. 15 minutes before a practice so we can get as much as we can out of the practice. Practices are more important than games since we need to fix the problems we are observing in our games. This means we need everyone at practice so that we can work on fixing our mistakes as a team. If someone misses a practice and we learn something new then that player should not be playing in the next game since they are lost when we do something new in a game and this hurts the team as a whole. I write up a practice expecting at least 10 players and when less then that show up that practice is not usable and I have to create a new one on the fly. We also are not able to learn new plays or fix old ones. I would also like players to be at games 45 minutes early, this will give them 15 minutes to change, 10 minutes for us to discuss our game strategy and what we need to work on and 10 minutes for a good solid warm up. Most games we are only getting 2-3 minutes for discussion and 10-15 minutes for warm up. This is not good enough for any team to properly prepare for a game.
