The Boys Cross Country team finished 3rd in TAPPS District 4A and 9th in State out of 26 teams. Leading the Vikings all year, sophomore captain Ben A finished 11th at States, just missing All-State recognition. The most improved runner was Alex A-E, shaving a whopping 7 minutes off of his 5k time vs. a year ago, and anchoring himself in the #3 spot for Village. At States, the boys team’s combined time was fastest in District 4A, a remarkable improvement from the beginning of the season. Seniors Alvaro I and Philip V will be sorely missed.

Girls Cross Country went out with a bang as team #1 Charlotte S destroyed the State Meet field, giving The Village School their first cross country state champion. The girls team finished 4th in TAPPS District 4A and 9th in state out of 22 teams. Improving right to the end, the Village harriers beat all but one of their District rivals at States. A young team, the Vikings will return a talented group of sophomores led by Reshmi P and junior captain Fernanda N. The team will miss top #5 runner, senior Alison C.

I would like to thank all of the parents for putting up with the 5:30 am practices and making sure the runners showed up in timely fashion. The season could not have been as successful without you. Also thanks to my assistant Matt Mouro for being my memory. Special thanks to Dustin Embrey, Don Harvey, Jeff Bond, and Nick Petito for making my first season coaching so easy and enjoyable! Go Vikings!

After taking 3rd and 4th place respectively at TAPPS District 5A Cross Country Championships last week, The Village Boys and Girls Cross Country teams head to Waco Saturday for the TAPPS State Cross Country Championships. The boy’s team, disappointed with their performance last Thursday, looks for revenge against rivals St John’s XXIII and Lutheran South as well as hoping for a top 5 finish. Led by sophomore captain Ben A (3rd at Districts) and senior Alvaro I (5th at Districts), the Village harriers have been improving all season long and are peaking at the right time.

The Village girls team, led by junior Charlotte S (2nd at Districts) and junior captain Fernanda N (13th at Districts) all set personal bests at Districts. The team will need strong performances from sophomores Reshmi P, Nina R, and Melanie D as well as senior Alison C if they are to move up on District rivals Lutheran-South and Second Baptist. Go Vikings!
