(Click on the headline to read the details of these games- colorfully provided by Brent Patterson. We have all thoroughly enjoyed Brent's commentaries through-out the season. Thank-you Brent!) With this loss, Kyle Chapman 14y/o All Stars ended a very successful season. This team, managed by Cliff Atherton, and coached by Ray Redding and Mark Carney, represented Houston in a manner that makes all associated with Kyle Chapman baseball proud. This is the end for this group of players at Kyle Chapman, but many of them will go on to be outstanding players in high school, college, and beyond. Good luck to a great group. The KC 14-year old team, composed of players from Southwest Houston, Bellaire, and West University, met host Port Neches in their first game Friday night. KC lead 2-1 after four innings when, in the fourth inning, Ben Silberman walked, Jeremy Gould singled and stole second base, and Nick Wills singled in both runs. Port Neches took the lead for good in the bottom of the fifth. With one out, a strike out pitch went to the screen allowing the runner to reach first base. A walk, error, and single resulted in three runs that gave the win to Port Neches 4-2. Ross Haggard pitched for KC, and allowed only 1 earned run, 2 hits, struck out 10, and walked only 1. KC had 5 hits in the game. Kyle Chapman's second game was played against Friendswood on Saturday afternoon. Jeremy Gould pitched a masterful six innings for KC giving up 2 runs on 4 hits. The game was scoreless until Friendswood scored 2 runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. In the top of the seventh inning, Jeremy Gould singled to rightfield to open the inning, and Nick Wills walked. Peter Marshall sacrificed the runners to second and third. Ross Haggard struck out for the second out. On a 3-1 pitch, Eddrick Gilmore homered over the centerfield fence to give KC a 3-2 lead. Alex Atherton retired the side in order in the bottom of the seventh to give KC the win. Kyle Chapman had to come back and play again Saturday night against Pasadena. For the first time in eight tournament games, KC's defense deserted them, and Pasadena built up a 6-1 lead. KC made another comeback attempt in the seventh inning when Ben Silberman single was followed by two quick outs, and then pinch hitter Michael Torres walked, Raymond Redding was hit by a pitch, and Ross Haggard doubled to deep centerfield making the score 6-4. Braylon Moore grounded out to end the game.
