Important Message - Junior Olympic State, Regionals & Nationals

Posted by Arizona Cheetahs on Apr 30 2017 at 05:00PM PDT
Hi guys,

I mentioned this earlier in the season and it is in the information packet.  However, I just wanted to reiterate a few things with regards to Regionals and Nationals.  You will be getting these little informative emails so please keep a look out and take a few minutes to READ.

1.    Relays can be changed at any time.  This means that a child running on it in State may not run on it in Regionals and even if they run on it in Regionals they may not run on it at Nationals.

Reasons – We try to take the best and most competitive once we get to that level of competition.  We try to give each child with a shot to make it in their most competitive individual event to the next level.  However, we will adjust to make a relay faster if that athlete’s individual time is not nationally ranked. We continuously check times as to how we are compared nationally and adjust accordingly.

Example – Syniah in the state of Arizona is very competitive in the 100, 200 and Long Jump and did all 3 individual events to score points in PIs.  In state and regionals she will compete in the 200, LJ and 4x1A.  She is ranked to make the podium at Nationals in Long Jump, however she has not yet hit a time that is nationally ranked in the 100 and 200 so she may even be moved to the 4x4A.

If you have questions about your child, please send us an email and I can either answer directly or send in the next email.  Our nationally ranked standards is making the podium which is 1st through 8th.  We use top times run at Nationals the previous year and those top times can come from any round of that event.  Here is a link to see last year’s national performances…. http://www.usatf.org/usatf/files/88/88e3287d-4c95-4f9b-9bdc-560391a871dd.htm
