ALL STAR PROGRAM

Please note that to be eligible for selection to our All-Star teams, the player must be registered in our Association during the spring season and must have played in at least half of his/her spring season team games.  If there are not enough eligible players to fill out roster spots, we can and may accept players from other Associations to complete our teams. These programs are available to our Bantam, Pee Wee, Mosquito & Tadpole age players.

Bantam Division

Bantam 'AAA' - Teams in this division play one continuous season from spring through summer.  Depending upon how many teams enter the current years schedule, there may be teams that are eliminated from summer play.  The rest of the teams will compete in the Provincial tournament.  The top two teams will advance to either the Western Canada or National Championships in August.

Bantam 'AA' - This level is usually for the more advanced player. Players who played 'AA' for the whole spring season cannot play in our 'A' summer program unless there is a valid reason that must also be approved by BC Minor Baseball. Players who played in spring 'A' can also play in summer 'AA' if recruited. Our summer program starts in late June and will end in early August if the team qualifies for the Provincial Tournament.   The winner of the Provincials will advance to the Western Canada Championships in August.

Bantam 'A' - This level is for our developing players who aren't quite as advanced as the players in the 'AA' program. The program starts in late June and ends in early August if the team qualifies for the season ending Provincial Tournament.

Pee Wee Division

Pee Wee 'AAA' - This level is the highest for this division.  If the summer team is considered of high enough caliber, then this team will compete in the 'AAA' division instead of 'AA'.  The top two teams in the Provincials will advance to the Western Canada Championships.

Pee Wee 'AA' - This level is usually for the more advanced player.

Pee Wee 'A' - This level is for our developing players who aren't quite as advanced as the players in the 'AA' program. The program starts in late June and ends in early August if the team qualifies for the season ending Provincial Tournament.

Mosquito Division

Mosquito 'AA' - This level is usually for the 10 year old players. It can be quite a step up from the 'A' program. If a 9 year old player is advanced enough, he/she can try out for the team. The season starts in late June and ends in late July unless the team qualifies for the Provincial Tournament.

Mosquito 'A' - This level is for the developing Mosquito player. First year Mosquito players (no first year 10 year olds can play at this level) are eligible to play.

Tadpole Division

This program is in a trial period to see if there is enough interest from players and parents to formalize a summer schedule for all tadpole players.  Live pitching will be the standard for play.

Volunteers

VOLUNTEERS

Volunteers are the lifeline of our association.  Without them, our league would cease to function.  Over the years, we have had the pleasure of so many volunteers who have given up much of their free time during baseball season to help coach, run and stock our concession, rake and prepare our playing fields, sit on the executive committee and anything else that is required to make our league run smoothly and efficiently.

If you are so inclined, and would like to step up to the plate and help, please contact any member of the league executive and advise him/her of your interest.

Without your support, now and in the future, there may not be a program we can provide to our community to help the children enjoy a physical activity, make new friends, learn about teamwork and of course, to have fun!

Fundrasing

Posted by TONY YEE at Jul 16, 2011 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

FUNDRAISING

Vancouver Minor Baseball is strictly a non profit organization.  We run a budget on a yearly basis, hoping that we have enough registration to cover most of our operating expenses.  With the expected shortfall in operating revenue, we have to rely solely on donations or fundraising to cover the deficit.

Fundraising not only allows us to meet our operating budget but also allows us to plan ahead to cover costs for future or immediate projects that will benefit the league and our players.

Corporate donations and sponsorships play a necessary role in strengthening youth activities in our community.  Their ability to provide donations and gift certificates for raffle basket fundraisers, prizes and sponsorship of events help to offset costs normally absorbed by our association.  Our 'toonie toss' is a major fundraising event for us and it is important for the parents to realize how much they can help their children in receiving pledges.

If you know of any corporation or entity that relishes in helping youth organizations by contributing financially or materially, please contact any member of our league executive and advise him/her of the situation.  Remember, every little gift helps; no matter how big or small.

BLASTBALL PROGRAM

Ages - 3 to 5 Years Old

We have brought the exciting game of 'Blastball' to our baseball program. It's an excellent introduction to the game of baseball. More kids get to be involved in team concepts. It is a very simple concept utilizing the skills of baseball in a fun, fast paced activity for young players.

The program requires parent participation as this provides further encouragement for the young players.

The game is an introduction to baseball for a number of reasons;

- It is fun

- It is easy to play

- The players have instant success

- It is fast paced

- It is all played within a time frame of one hour.

Blastball is meant to put FUN into the game of baseball. It is designed to generate fast paced action, provide recreation and exercise, create enthusiasm and through simplicity will allow retention of youth particpants in the game. Blastball teaches all five fundamentals of baseball - hitting, throwing, catching, running and fielding. It is a ton of fun with very simple rules.
