Looking Ahead to Post-Season Play at PALL

Posted by Tanya Sullivan at May 1, 2007 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

Can you believe the end of the regular season is approaching?  Wow!  Where did the time go?  Here's a recap of the season so far and a look ahead to post season play.  There will be lots of baseball for most PALL players after school is out, so please mark your calendars!

The final two weeks of the season find some really good baseball being played at PALL and happy, supportive fans in the stands.  In the Major Division, the race tightened a bit as the Yankees (Couches) upset the undefeated Indians 6-1 last night narrowing the Indians (Bank of Marin) lead over the Yankees and A's (Athletic Edge) to 2.5 games.  The AAA Devil Rays (Jonny Gomes) continue to dominate Interleague play with a 9-0 record after a come from behind victory over Valley's Round Table team last night.  The AA Padres (Woo and DeBarardinis) are at the top of the board with an 8-3 record.   With several games remaining in the regular season schedule, it will be an exciting couple of weeks!

The A Division is all about learning the game, developing skills and having fun.  No scores or standings are kept.  Instead, those boys and girls play a longer regular season than the other divisions.  Their season concludes the first weekend in June.

The Junior Division season is now underway and the PALL teams are off to a strong start in Inter-League play with Valley and National. Their regular season continues through 6/4.  The Senior Division season begins on May 14th.

The AA and Major Divisions will hold In House tournaments beginning Saturday, May 19th.  The AA Tournament (single elimination) will conclude by Thursday, 5/24 and the Major Division Tournament (double elimination) will conclude before the Major Division City Tournament starts on 6/9.

The AAA Division continues regular season Inter-League play until  shortly before the AAA City Tournament starts on 6/9.

The PALL AAA and Major Divisions will compete against Petaluma Valley and Petaluma National Little Leagues in City Touraments in June.  These tournaments begin on 6/9 and run for approximately 3 weeks.  They will end before the July 4th holiday. Teams will compete in "pool play" rounds and winners of pool play will advance to the championship rounds.

As PALL's Regular Season teams wrap up their competition, All-Star Teams are selected. The 9-10, 10-11, 11-12, Junior and Senior All Star Teams will represent PALL in tournaments that begin at the Area Level (half of District 35) and, for the 11-12, Junior, and Senior Division Teams, can take them all the way to their respective Little League World Series in August.  You Gotta Believe!

Keep an eye out for more specific info on post-season play.  Your player's manager will be the best source of information.

Parents have been asking how they can sign up to work their snack shack shifts and earn their refund.  Team moms have been circulating a schedule for several weeks, but if it hasn’t found it’s way to you yet, here’s another way to sign up.  Following are open dates that we need to fill.  Please find two that work with your schedule and email your name, phone number, and shifts you would like to PALL Volunteer Coordinator Kelly Bruihl.  She will shoot back a quick confirmation if that date is still open.  You might consider also providing some alternative dates to speed the process. These shifts will be “first come, first served”.  Upon completion of two complete, scheduled shifts we will mail a Snack Shack Refund Check to you.  More info about snack shack volunteer responsibilities and why this role is so important follows the list of available dates. It takes a lot of time to heat the cheese and chili, thus the start times that are much earlier than the game times.

What do Snack Shack Volunteers Do?
The teens have most of the responsibilities covered so this is an easy way to support the League. There is even a nice window in the wall giving you a rare “Home Plate” perspective on the game!  Volunteers keep a casual eye on things in the Minor Snack Shack to ensure that the teen workers are doing their jobs safely (lots of hot cheese and drinks in there).  This can be done from the doorway so you can keep an eye on your child’s game while working your shift. During peak times, the teens may ask you to help sell drinks or candy from a very simple menu. Finally, there are checklists on the refrigerator and we appreciate your help with any of those tasks or simply reminding the teens to complete them all.  The Teens became a fan for life of one mom who offered to wash the cheese pots for them… extra Karma points to her and her team… but definitely NOT a requirement!  If a game you sign up for is rescheduled, your shift will roll forward to a new date and we will work with your schedule if the new date isn’t a good fit.

Just a quick reminder about why Snack Shack Shifts are important.
The Minor Field Snack Shack is conveniently located for families watching games on our minor fields.  It’s also a major source of revenue for the League so we can continue to improve Middle and Kenneally Fields. The new Kenneally dugouts and scoreboard and the renovation of the Middle Infield are just a few examples of your snack shack revenue at work. An adult must be present to supervise the teens working in the Minor Snack Shack as we serve hot food and drinks.  Without volunteers filling that role, we will have to close the Minor Snack Shackwhich means a longer walk for Ball Park goodies and less revenue for field improvements.  There is a misconception that adult volunteers take a job away from a teen worker, but in fact, the opposite is true.

So… start thinking about how you’ll spend that $40 (or more if you have additional players) and snag your shifts now!  Thanks for your support.
Field conditions are quite changeable today.  The front has passed and the field is in very good shape so we will try to play.  Decisions about individual games will be made shortly before each game.  Unless you have received a call from your Manager that Mike McKinley or Barry Jones (Junior Division) have cancelled a game due to rain, you should report to the field ready to play.

Make-up games are difficult to schedule this time of year and there is more blustery wet weather forecast this week so we need to take advantage of every opportunity to play.  There will be lots of hot gourmet coffee (none of that icky stuff anymore) in the Major Snack Shack to keep the fans warm!

Little League Day at the Oakland Coliseum will be a lot of fun.  There will be 140 fans in The Gomes Zone!  I will contact you tomorrow about ticket pickup which will be at the PALL Major Snack Shack on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday afternoon.  Ticket for The Gomes Zone are sold out, but you can still buy game tickets directly from the A's.  We're in Sections 104 and 105 it you want to try to get tickets nearby.

THE A'S HAVE EXTENDED THE TICKET DEADLINE TO SUNDAY EVENING, APRIL 22ND! That's what I'm talkin' about!

The Oakland A's and PALL are teaming up to bring Little League families a VERY special event on Sunday, April 29th.  It's Little League Day at McAfee Coliseum and... the A's are playing the Tampa Bay Devil Rays.  Petaluma's own Jonny Gomes is a Devil Ray.  How cool is that!  In addition to being a Major Leaguer who placed third in the 2005 American League Rookie of the Year balloting, Jonny sponsors three Petaluma Little League Teams.  Yeah Jonny!  Bring your family to the game and sit in The Gomes Zone to enjoy some good baseball with PTown friends and support a local kid that made it all the way to The Show! You gotta act fast.  The deadline has been extended until Sunday evening,  April 22nd. The A's are knocking $10 off the ticket price especially for PTown Fans. Our field level tickets right behind the Rays bullpen are just $22.50!

We have set up an Active.com credit card payment process to make ticket purchase easier for you and... well, OK... for me. Active.com is the organization that hosts our PALL Website and makes online registration possible. They charge a small fee for the convenience of credit card payment, but it's a LOT less than the usual MLB on line ticketing fees! You can pick up your tickets right here at the PALL Snack Shack the week before the game. If payment by credit card is a deal killer for you, give me a call to discuss options (707-529-1720). CLICK HERE TO BUY TICKETS NOW

Last year, 350 of us sat together to cheer for Jonny and the (R)A(Y)'s.  Jonny and his teammates signed autographs and made the day very special for Little Leaguers and their parents.

Jonny is in a hard fought battle for the Rays DH position this year.  A number of young rookies have their eye on Jonny's Outfield and DH positions. Let's send Jonny some PTown love and put a big crowd in The Gomes Zone on April 29th.  Just follow this link to pay for your tickets by credit card using Active.com.

More about Jonny's journey to Major League Baseball.

Questions?  Contact Tanya Sullivan at the Snack Shack Grill Window call her at 529-1720, or email her at PTownBaseballMom@comcast.net.

Now for the fine print...  This is a baseball game so there's no guarantee that Jonny will play :-(  BUT... the more fans we send, the more Karma points work in his favor! Also, bad weather is a rare occurrence in Oakland, but in the event of a rainout, you will own tickets to another A's game.
