Wrap: by Jeff Pierce Daily Times Chronicle
The Bulldogs (8-5-1) finished off a nice weekend with their second consecutive late inning comeback win as they defeated the Watertown Reds at Morton Field on Sunday evening. With the win Reading took the season series from their perennial rival (2-1-1). The Reds came out of the gate strong when Sean Callahan rang a two run home run off the left field scoreboard giving Watertown a 3-0 lead. From that point on Bulldog ace Taylor Robinson (2-0) shut down the Reds as he took command from the mound allowing just three hits the rest of the way while striking out seven. Meanwhile the Reds pitcher Scott Lueders who had shutout Reading just a few weeks earlier on the same field allowed the Bulldogs just three hits and one run over the first five innings. As they had done two nights earlier the Bulldogs put together a sixth inning rally. Zac Talis hit a long double with one out followed by a Nick Conti single and then Andy Gagnon was hit by a pitch. Lueders induced a pop out for the second out of the inning. John Halsey then stepped up and singled to left scoring the tying runs making it 3-3. After an infield hit loaded the bases, rookie catcher Paul Crehan delivered a bomb off the right centerfield fence clearing the bases and giving the Bulldogs a three run lead. Robinson then finished off another strong outing for his second complete game win of the week. The Bulldogs finish out the first half at Lexington HS on Monday night against the Blue Sox where they will enter the game in second place in the league standings.
