The Bulldogs (4-4-1) were buoyed by the debut of a long sought after arm in defeating the Mooney Dental Tanners 5-0 in the annual Jere DeAngelis Memorial Classic played at Lexington HS on Saturday.
Taylor Robinson nephew of former RMHS standout catcher Dan Robinson, a four year starter for UMass Lowell, showed a great variety of pitches and mixed his speeds in well in shutting down the Tanners on two hits while striking out nine.
The Bulldogs out across the only run they would need in the first inning, when St. Johns Prep and URI incoming recruit Tommy Bounopane lined a two out single to right.
The Bulldogs put across four more runs along the way through strong fundamentals (5 sacrifice hits) and with the teams oldest player Andy Gagnon leading the way with two runs scored and a run batted in.
Meanwhile Robinson made quick work of the opposition, mowing down the first 14 batters and allowing just two sixth inning singles in a game that took just over 90 minutes to complete.
