USA HOCKEY/STHA COACHING REQUIREMENTS

(LIST TITLES ARE LINKS)

1) Register as a member of USA Hockey  (link will be active soon)

- Required annually (annual fee).

2) Register as a member of the STHA  (link will be active soon)

- Required annually. 

3) Complete NYSAHA background screening 

- Required per New York State Amateur Hockey Association (NYSAHA) and STHA policy.

- Good for two years. 

- There is a screening fee.

- Select "Southern Tier Hockey" from the pulldown, and hit the "Screen Me" button, and fill in/submit all required information.  

4) Complete USA Hockey SafeSport training

- Required every two years.

- Required before you step on the ice.

5) Find, register, & attend your required CEP certification clinic

- You must be registered for a clinic before you can step on the ice.

- Clinic must be completed by December 31.

- The coaching clinic season typically runs from September 1 to December 31.

- You can attend one clinic per season.

- All coaches must enter USA Hockey's Coaching Education Program at Level 1, and must continue their education with a clinic each year until, at a minimum, they acheive Level 3.

Exception: Coaches of 8U or younger players may remain at Level 1 (or their current level) until they move up to the next age-level.

- Coaching certification at Level 3 is valid for two seasons.

  - Coaches whose Level 3 is expiring must take the online recertification track curriculum(s), or move up to a Level 4.  The recertification(s) are valid for two seasons, and can be done twice (Track 1 & Track 2). 

- Coaches whose Level 3 Track 2 Recertification are expiring must move to Level 4. 

- Coaches who attain Level 4 certification are not required to attend any further certification clinics, but must adhere to the age-specific module requirements.

- Coaches of Tier II 16U and 18/19U national tournament bound teams must complete Level 4 certification in their fourth season of coaching.

6) Complete online age-specific module(s) for the age level of play you are coaching

- Online modules are typically available from September 1 to December 31. 

- You must complete your age-specific modules by December 31.

- Coaches may complete more than one age-specific module in any given season.

- Modules cost $10 each.
