FAQ on Registering for Little League

Posted by Ron Matthews on Dec 17 2010 at 04:00PM PST in 2018 Season

QHow do I know which to sign up for, T-ball/Farm, or Baseball?

A. If your player is 4-6, they must sign up for T-ball/Farm. If he/she is 7 and has never played before, sign them up for Farm. If he/she is 7 and has played baseball before, then you may elect to try out for evaluations in the baseball Division A. All other ages 8-12 must attend evaluations(with the exception of some 12 year olds who were in the Major Division last year).

Q. When will we know when our player is on a team and begin to play?

A. Players in T-ball or Farm will be contacted by their new Manager in late February or early March. Players who have attended evaluations will be contacted immediately after the draft, which is the week of January 31-February 3. As soon as you are notified by the Manager, he or she will advise you of a parent meeting and practice schedules. Games do not begin until after Opening Day which is March 12th.

Q. Can we request that our child play with friends?

A. Yes, especially in T-ball/Farm. We will do our very best to honor such requests in T-ball/Farm. But the "baseball draft" is different. The evaluated players are selected from the draft pool, and it is not up to the League but rather the Managers.

Q. What happens if we cannot attend evaluations?

A. No player may be drafted into the Major Division without having been evaluated. In the Minor Divisions (A, AA, and AAA) if players do NOT attend evaluations, then the Managers do not know where to draft them. We have, of course, provided a "make-up date" on January 22. Besides, we try at all costs to make evaluations fun and reduce the pressure. So do your best as a parent to help us by keeping it as low-key as possible. They'll do just fine!
