Americans Top Chiefs, 7-6

Medford- The Medford Americans won their third straight game when they knocked off the Chiefs last night 7-6 at Playstead Park . The game was a darkeness shortened six inning affair.

The Chiefs took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first off Americans starter Ryan Maguire. Phil Costello singled with one out and went to second on a Justin Crisafulli fielders chocie. Mike Andre then singled to left scoring Costello to give the Chiefs a 1-0 lead. Jeff DeCarlo then launched a long double to left center that scored Andre all the way from first base giving the Chiefs a 2-0 lead.
 
The Americans came right back with a five spot in the top of the second off Chiefs starter and loser Mike Coppinger. Steve Panza, Jay Christman and Erik Zarrella all singled, Ryan Burke hit into a fielders choice scoring Panza, Mike Burgoyne drew a walk to reload the bases, Charlie Pagliarulo singled and went to third when right fielder Jeff DeCarlo let the ball skip by him making it 4-2. Johnny Welch then lifted a sacrifice fly scoring Pagliarulo for a 5-2 Americans lead.

The Chiefs closed the gap to 5-4 in the bottom of the second when Sean O'Brien singled, Rich Montecalvo sacrificed him to second, Doug Heald walked and Jim Buldini delivered them both with a long double to left.

The Americans added a run in the third to take a 6-4 lead on Christman RBI double. It went to 7-4 in the fourth on a Steve Napier RBI single.

The Chiefs made it a 7-6 game in the sixth on singles from O'Brien and Montecalvo, a Heald fielder's choice and a Buldini sacrifice fly. Lefty Nolan Boike came on in relief of Maguire to get Crisafulli to fly to right for the last out of the sixth.

The game was called due to darkness with the Americans batting in the top of the seventh.

Righty Mike Chandler will draw the start for the Chiefs when they host the Watertown Reds on Tuesday night at Playstead at 6:00 PM.
