Pasta Party, Tuesday, May 8, 2018, 4 pm

 A TEAM Pasta Party will take place the night before the ESCC Championships, in the Marist Cafeteria following practice at 4 pm. Aurelio's catering will provide Spaghetti with meat sauce, Spaghetti with butter, Gluten free pizza, Garden Sald, Garlic bread, and bottled water.

 Early dismissal from classes on Wednesday, May 9, 2018, will take place at noon. The bus will leave for Niles Notre Dame at 12:15 pm. Meet packets are available under the link, "2018 Track and Field Schedule". THREE Subway platters filled with 45 clubs sandwiches will be provided on the bus. There is 44 athletes competing on Wednesday. Please bring additional snacks and water to the Track meet.

 The TEAM Pasta Party, and Subway platters are 100% paid for by the Marist Track and Field Coaching Staff.

The Marist Track and Field Coaching Staff wants to provide a spectacular Track and Field Banquet at the East Bank Club for the TEAM on June 3, 2018.

Last year, Marist did not have a Banquet for the Track Team. We want to change that, but need your help. In order to have a Track Banquet this season, we need every athlete and parent to register for it by Thursday, May 3, 2018. Thanks.

 The Marist Track and Field Banquet features an Italian Buffet with Chicken Vesuvio with potatoes and peas, Pan-Seared Salmon in tomato-fennel sauce, Cheese Stuffed Arancini with marinara on the side, Flatbread, Grissini, Filone and Ciabatta with dipping oil and parmesan, Romaine Hearts with caesar dressing, Prosciutto with melon, Vegetable Antipasto Salad, Mushroom and Spinach Salad, Mushroom Tortellini in white wine, herbs and cheese, Frest Fruit,  Tiramisu with espresso sauce, and Cannolis.

Pep Rally on Friday, April 20, 2018

On Friday, a Pep Rally will take place at the end of the day for the Marist Track and Field TEAM. Track Athletes will meet by the Athletic Department offices after your last class. Please wear your Track Uniform to the Pep Rally. Among others, Marist will attempt to BREAK THREE SOPHOMORE RELAY RECORDS on Friday, in the 4x100m, the 4x200m, and the 4x400m at RICE RELAYS. The bus will leave at 3:00 pm for Rice Relays.

Thomas Leonard will compete against the Top 36 Distance runners in the Midwest on Saturday, and will attempt to break his own Sophomore record in the 3200m at Palatine High School at Distance Night in Palatine. The bus will leave at 4:15 pm for Distance Night in Palatine.

On Friday, April 13, 2018, the Marist Varsity Men and Sophomore Boys Track Team traveled to Oak Lawn Community High School for the 16th Annual Spartan Invitational.

Marist Sophomore Thomas Leonard came into the meet with a 3200m personal record of 10:08.24, and the goal of breaking 9:55 to qualify for an elite Track meet, Distance Night at Palatine High School, which is scheduled for Saturday, April 21, 2018. The field at Distance Night at Palatine is limited to the top 32 distance runners in the Midwest.

The Marist Sophomore 3200m run school record was held by Alumni legend Dan Cole (1983, 9:51.8). Dan Cole graduated from Marist in 1985, and after high school, ran Cross Country and Track for West Point for four years. Dan Cole graduated from West Point in 1989. At West Point, Dan Cole ran a 3:46 1500m, which converts to a 4:02 mile! Cole also competed at the famous Penn Relays on multiple occassions, and helped Army beat Navy in Cross Country and Track! Cole also holds the Marist Sophomore 4x800m Relay record (8:26.0).

The Marist Sophomore 3200m run record has lasted 35 years (1983).

On Friday, April 13, 2018, the conditions on the Track were windy with rain. Thomas Leonard approached the starting line with determination and guts.   

Thomas Leonard ran the first 400m in 68 seconds, and then ran the next 400m in 74 seconds for an 800m split of 2:22. Leonard then ran the next 400m in a NEGATIVE split of 73 seconds for a 1200m split of 3:35. Leonard then ran the next 400m in 74 seconds for a 1600m split of 4:49.

Thomas Leonard then ran the next 400m in a NEGATIVE split of 73 seconds for a 2000m split of 6:02. Leonard ran the next 400m in 75 seconds for a 2400m split of 7:17. Leonard then ran the next 400m in an even split of 75 seconds for a 2800m split of 8:32. IHSA Official, and former State champ Lionell Poole rang the bell as Thomas Leonard began the final lap of the 3200m. Thomas Leonard ran the final 400m in a NEGATIVE split of 70.06 seconds to WIN the 3200m and BREAK THE SOPHOMORE SCHOOL RECORD with a personal best time of 9:42.06. Thomas Leonard dropped 26 seconds (10:08.24) to WIN the 3200m and BREAK THE SOPHOMORE SCHOOL RECORD! As soon as he crossed the finish line, Leonard was mobbed by teammates congratulating him on breaking the 35 years old school record!!

Alumni legend Dan Cole contacted Marist Head Coach Jon Gordon to congratulate Thomas Leonard on breaking his 3200m record. Dan Cole currently lives in Johns Creek, Georia with his wife, Dianne Eldridge Cole, and their four children. All four of his kids run. Dan Cole is also a volunteer Track Coach. Dan Cole also works for an Insurance company, the United Health Group. Cole participates in the Peachtree 10K in Atlanta, Georgia every July. The Peachtree 10K is the world's largest 6.2 miles race with 60,000 runners. Dan Cole is consistently among the top runners in his age group.

Thomas Leonard will be honored in practice on Monday with a WATERMELON for breaking the Marist Sophomore 3200m run record, and will also receive a plaque at the Marist Track and Field Banquet at the East Bank Club on Sunday, June 3, 2018.

Marist Sophomore Luke Hortsman came in the meet with a season best time of 11:43.55.

At the Oak Lawn Spartan Invitational, Luke Hortsman dropped 33 seconds (11:43.55) and outkicked Oak Lawn's Angel Corral (11:10.46) to the finish line with a PERSONAL BEST time of 11:10.19.

Luke Hortsman ran the first 400m in 77 seconds, and then ran the next 400m in 86 seconds for a 2:43 800m split. Luke then ran the next 400m in a negative split of 84 seconds for a 4:07 1200m split. Hortsman then ran the next 400m in 85 seconds for a 1600m split of 5:32.

Luke Hortsman then ran the next 400m in 85 seconds for a 2000m split of 6:57. Luke then ran the next 400m in a negative split of 84 seconds for a 2400m split of 8:21. Hortsman then ran the next 400m in 87 seconds for a 2800m split of 9:48. Luke Hortsman then ran the final 400m in a NEGATIVE split of 82.19 seconds for a PERSONAL BEST time of 11:10.19.

Oak Lawn's Angel Corral finished next with an official time of 11:10.46. Tinley Park's Josh Hartman finished with an official time of 11:16.10. Bremen's Musaab Froukh finished with an official time of 11:16.10. Brother Rice's Alex MacFarlane finished with an official time of 11:19.48. Oak Lawn's Michael Majcherek finished with an official time of 11:29.56. Illiana Christian's Ben Ipema finished with an official time of 11:33.88. Tinley Park's Nick Marfoe finished with an official time of 12:16.59.
