 On Saturday, January 19, 2019, the Marist Track and Field TEAM traveled to Henry Crown Field House at the University of Chicago for a Long Jump Competition. The top 3 Seniors, Juniors, Sophomores, and Freshman would be awarded MEDALS for their performance. The Long Jump Competition provides athletes an appreciation for each others events, and also helps the Marist Coaching Staff discovery additional Jumpers for the 2019 Track and Field season.

 Henry Crown Stadium features an athlete friendly atmosphere, upper deck seating, 200m Indoor Track and has been the host to numerous National meets, and local Championship meets as well. The Varsity letter was invented in the 1890s by Amos Alonzo Stagg at the University of Chicago. The main wall of the stadium contains a list of field house records, which include several Olympians. The first Heisman Trophy winner (1935), Jay Berwanger is still listed on the all-time list for Henry Crown for the 55m Dash. Henry Crown Field house is a Chicago landmark that is rich in Track & Field history.

 Marist Sophomore Carter Auer WON the 2019 King of the Long Jump competition with a personal best jump of 19'0.  

 Brian Ferguson WON the Junior division with a personal best leap of 18'10!

 Eric Teverbaugh WON the Senior division with a personal best jump of 17'0!

 Brendan Geary WON the Freshman division with a personal best jump of 15'7!

 27 ATHLETES HAD A PERSONAL BEST LONG JUMP PERFORMANCE AT THE 2019 KING OF THE LONG JUMP COMPETITION. 

Marist Team Captains Brian Ferguson and Lucas Pennix led a Team Huddle to celebrate the first Track and Field competitions of the season. 

 On Saturday, January 19, 2019, the Marist Track and Field TEAM traveled to Henry Crown Field House at the University of Chicago for a 400m Time Trial. The top 3 Seniors, Juniors, Sophomores, and Freshman would be awarded MEDALS for their performance. The 400m Time Trial would also help the Marist Track and Field Coaching Staff determine future training for all athletes, racing strategy for the 800m, and help decide the RedHawks initial 4x400m Relays and 4x800m Relays for the upcoming Jerry Lowe Invitational.

 Marist Junior Brian Ferguson shoe fell off during the first 50m of the 400m Time Trial. Ferguson, recovered instantly, and ran the final 350m in a pure guts race with only one shoe to WIN the 2019 King of the Quarter competion with an outstanding time of 56.76. Ferguson also dropped 2.32 seconds (59.08) from the 2018 King of the Quarter competition.

Marist Junior Caleb Davis finished second in the Junior Class with an INDOOR PERSONAL RECORD of 58.52. Caleb Davis dropped 1.72 seconds (60.24) from the 2018 King of the Quarter competition.

Marist Junior Tyler Thomas finished third in the Junior Class with a season best time of 61.80.

Marist Sophomore Jamari Grant WON the Sophomore division, and finished second overall at the 2019 King of the Quarter competition with an INDOOR PERSONAL RECORD of 58.15. Jovan Marsh finished second in the Sophomore division with a season best time of 59.23. Jovan Marsh dropped 1.11 seconds (60.34) from the 2018 King of the Quarter competition. Kevin Bugos finished third in the Sophomore division with an INDOOR PERSONAL RECORD of 63.30.

Marist Senior Lucas Pennix WON the Senior division, and finished fourth overall at the 2019 King of the Quarter competition with an INDOOR PERSONAL RECORD of 58.55. Alexis Arreola finished second in the Senior division with an INDOOR PERSONAL RECORD of 60.72. Eric Teverbaugh finished third in the Senior division with an INDOOR PERSONAL RECORD of 61.08.

Marist Freshman Brendan Geary WON the Freshman division with a personal best time of 62.43Andrew Kerlin finished SECOND in the Freshman division with a personal best time of 63.45. Michael Coy finished THIRD in the Freshman division with a personal best time of 65.08.

28 MARIST TRACK AND FIELD ATHLETES RAN AN INDOOR PERSONAL RECORD AT THE 2019 KING OF THE QUARTER COMPETITION!! 

 On Friday, January 18, 2019, Olympian Brian Dzingai traveled to Marist High School to address the Marist Boys Track and Field TEAM at a Pasta Party with athletes and parents, the night before the RedHawks 400m Time Trial and Long Jump Competition at history Henry Crown Field house at the University of Chicago.

 Brian Dzingai is a Zimbawean Olympic sprinter who specialized in the 200 meters dash. He ran a personal best time of 20.12 seconds in Austin Texas, and has 100 meters personal best time of 10.19.

 Brian Dzingai, attended St. George's College in Harare, Zimbabwe, and then transfered to Truman State University in Kirksville, MO, and then transferred to Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida. Shortly after completing his undergraduate degree at Florida State Univeristy, Brian earned a master's degree in Business Administration (MBA) from Florida State Univeristy.

 Brian Dzingai led Florida State University to an NCAA Division I National Championship in Track and Field, and finished fourth in the Olympics in the 200m dash to Usain Bolt!

 At 2008 Olympics in Beijing, Brian Dzingai was also selcted as the flag-bearer for Zimbabwe.

 Olympian Brian Dzingai gave an incredible motivational speech to the Marist Track and Field TEAM, Parents, and guests on the eve of the commencement of the 2019 Track and Field Season.

 Brian Dzingai shared his Olympic experience with Marist, and talked about TEAM culture, the process, rest, diet, and his high school, collegiate, and Olympic training.

 Athletes and Parents stayed hours after his presentation swapping stories, and taking photos with Olympian Brian Dzingai.

 Marist Head Coach Jon Gordon presented Brian Dzingai with a Thank You gift from the TEAM, which included Gift Cards to Best Buy, Amazon, and a commeorative Mug. Brian Dzingai provided all of the Marist Track and Field Athletes, Parents, and guests with a special experience to start the 2019 Track and Field season.

 The Marist Track & Field Parents and Athletes will be having a Team Dinner and Parents Information meeting with Olympian Brian Dzingai on Friday, January 18, 2019, from 4:30 pm – 5:30 pm in the cafeteria. Brian Dzingai finished fourth in the Olympics in the 200m dash to Usain Bolt!

 The TEAM dinner will take place the night before the Redhawks King of the Quarter, Long Jump, and Shot Put Competition (1/19/19) at historic Henry Crown Fieldhouse at the University of Chicago.

 Aurelio's Catering will provide the TEAM and PARENTS with a very healthy Team Dinner. The dinner will feature Garden Salad, Spaghetti with Meat Sauce, Pasta with Butter, and bottled water. All expenses are 100% paid by Marist Head Coach Jon Gordon. 

 The Team Dinner will be a great morale booster, and a great way for the athletes to celebrate the start of Track & Field season. 

 A TEAM / PARENTS INFORMATION MEETING will take place after the dinner. The information meeting will provide Marist parents an opportunity to meet the 2019 Marist Track & Field coaching staff, learn about the Marist Track program, Proper running shoes, Season Schedule, learn about the college recruiting process, and help us find volunteers to help with future Team Tailgate parties and our home meet, the ESCC Conference Championships on May 8, 2019.

 The Marist Coaching staff will also be available after the meeting for any individual concerns or  questions about the upcoming Track & Field season. Thanks.

 The entire Marist Track and Field Team will have a 400m Time Trial, Long Jump, and Shot Put Competition on Saturday, January 19, 2019 from 6:15 pm - 7:45 pm at historic Henry Crown Field House Indoor Track at the University of Chicago.

 Henry Crown Stadium features an athlete friendly atmosphere, upper deck seating, 200m Indoor Track and has been the host to numerous National meets, and local Championship meets as well.  Athletes will meet with the coaching staff at 5:00 pm for heat assignments, at the main entrance of Marist before bus departure to the University of Chicago Indoor Track and Field Stadium. 

 Team Captains will lead the Team on a warm-up run in the Indoor Track & Field Stadium. The Time Trial is MANDATORY. All Athletes must be able to finish a 400m Time Trial to be on the TEAM. Uniforms will NOT be issued to any athletes that miss the Time Trial for any reason. Thanks. 

 The Time Trial will help determine our initial Varsity, Junior Varsity, Sophomore, and Freshman 4x400m Relay Teams.The King of the Quarter, and Long Jump competition gives Marist athletes an appreciation for each others events, and makes the TEAM stronger. 

 The distance runners also benefit from the 400m Time Trial, by learning their maximum quarter speed. With the knowledge of their maximum quarter speed, the coaching staff is able to provide proper racing strategy for the 800m run, and other races. 

 Athletes will meet at the MAIN ENTRANCE of Marist at 5:00 pm for bus departure to historic Henry Crown Field House at the University of Chicago. The Indoor Stadium is located at 5550 S University Ave, Chicago, Illinois.

 A public address announcer will introduce the contestants and announce the results of each 400m heat.
