Stanford Invitational - Results

Posted by Mike Davis on Sep 29 2006 at 05:00PM PDT
Teams from across the country headed to Stanford University's famed golf course for a day of top-notch cross country competition.  The nation's #1 and #2 teams were there, as well as 7 out of the top 10 California squads.  Amazing performances (read - fast times) were the theme of the day.

Monte Vista competed in the large school division, along with several other EBAL teams.  Up first were the varsity boys, who were once again paced by Junior Bhavik Kanzaria who finished 13th overall in an outstanding time of 16:16 for 5K (3.1 miles).  MV's 2,3 and 4 runners were tightly packed, finishing in 146, 148 and 157th place.  Tyler Breen, Mike Roderick and Clinton McAdams all ran respectable mid-17's.  Jake Smith finished the scoring for MV in 229th place, which put the team 26th out of 52 squads that toed the line.  Danny Bartz and Keith Romoser completed the group.

With two varsity runners missing, the MV Girls team took to the line determined to run hard and get valuable experience on the 5K course.  And that they did!  Jr Renee Lau paced the Stangs with a respectable 124th place finish and a 21:13 time.  Running her first varsity race, Jr Brett Zorich was next, close behind in 143rd (out of 300 runners).  Soph Christie Beeman had an excellent day, finishing 3rd for MV in 21:55 and earning a trip to Clovis next weekend.  Alternate Lauren Ho was 4th, having gone from car washing to racing at Stanford within a few hours.  Now THAT is coming through under pressure!  Taysa Bowers completed the varsity scoring in 198th place.  Kim Chin and Kaitlin Kelly were 6th and 7th runners.
