Late Comeback By Lady Falcons Sinks Beamer

Posted by Rob OFarrell on Mar 17 2014 at 05:00PM PDT in 2019 JV

Kicking off the 2014 season on the road, the Woodinville Falcons Fastpitch went up against a 2013 4A State team in Todd Beamer.  After last years close 2-1 victory in Woodinville to kick off the season, the Lady Falcons knew they were up against a solid team in Todd Beamer who lost only one of their 2013 4A State teammates.

The Lady Falcons got on the board early in the 2nd after a double by starting pitcher Kathryn Hatlen to lead off the inning.  Base running substitution had then a sac-fly RBI by Freshman Lauryn Rhinehart to put the girls up 1-0.  Todd Beamer came right back and tied it with a couple of doubles to make it 1-1.  At that point we knew we were in for a fight.  Beamer kept the pressure on with 7 more hits over the next two innings to push their lead to 4-1.

Coach Dani made a few changes both offensively and defensively putting Freshman Olivia Reiner on the mound and going to a small-ball approach.  This change worked beautifully as Beamer was unable to get anything going offensively with some solid pitching and great plays especially by Senior Tori Lettus at short stop to snag a couple of sure hits.

Finally by the 6th inning the Lady Falcons got it going offensively.  With two outs and a runner on 1st and 2nd, Freshman Jordyn Boyd came through with a nice RBI Single.  A couple of errant throws later the Lady Falcons scored another to bring the game to a 1 run deficit at 4-3.

A 1-2-3 bottom of the 6th and the Lady Falcons went back to small ball.  Alena Jones, Taylor Rhinehart and Boyd put down perfect bunts to get things going.  Even the 'Bigs' in the lineup were putting it down and that kind of pressure caused another series of errors and indecision by Todd Beamer which allowed for 3 runs to score putting the Lady Falcons up 6-4.  Nice pitching and plays in the bottom of the 7th to seal the win.

This was a team win from Coach through all 14 girls.  It appears this year will be one that will require all girls to come to the field ready and expecting to contribute night in and night out.
