At last night's team conference, Coach Fredricks proudly introduced 3 players who will serve as captains for the 2007 Charger Baseball squad.  Two seniors, Mike Hohman and Will Beard, will be joined by junior CJ Mooney to lead the team this season.

For Hohman, this will be his 2nd year of captaincy.  Last year as a junior, he was selected to the GMC All-Conference 1st Team and was 1st Team All-Area as selected by the Home News Tribune.  Hohman was also a 2nd team All New Jersey Group II pick by the Star Ledger.  A tremedous leader in every way, Hohman will look to shatter school records for hits, runs, and stolen bases for a career in this his 3rd and final year in blue and gold.

Beard will begin his 4th year as a varsity Charger looking to break several long standing pitching marks.  With 5 wins, he will become the first 20 game winner in school history and break current pitching coach Dan Fredricks' career total of 19 for best ever.  He already owns the career strikeout mark, and with 101 Ks last year, he set the single season standard as well.  Beard needs 1 tournament victory to be the school's all time tournament winner on the mound.  For 2006, Beard was 2nd team All New Jersey Group II, and 2nd Team All-Area.  He has accepted a scholarship to Rutgers University for next season.

Mooney will be making his debut as Charger captain as well.  He is a natural leader and sets great examples for other players around him.  Aside from his talents (he was the starting DH/1B as a sophomore), Mooney is an extremely hard worker.  His work ethic is something coaches strive for in each and every player in their program.  He will be bat in the heart of a very strong lineup and his ability to lead will make everyone around him stronger.

Not only are these three tremendous players, but they are even better young men.  With a roster peppered with honor roll students (15 total), these guys are at the top of the list.  With all of the personal goals at stake this year, these 3 really, truly care about one thing: WINNING A NEW JERSEY STATE TITLE.  It's that attitude and the opportunity to elevate this program to a higher level that has made Hohman, Beard, and Mooney your captains for the 2007 Chargers.
