Blast Launch 7 More in Route to Championship

Posted by Burney King on May 18 2008 at 05:00PM PDT

After a slow start the Mississippi Blast got hot and never looked back.  Showing tremendous poise and the will to win the "Girls of Black" captured the first championship of the summer.

In pool play the Blast matched up with new comer to the area, Metro Storm.  After being down 3-0 and time running out the Blast manage 3 runs in the final inning.  Starting it off with a solo homerun by Londen, followed by back to back walks by Anna and Caroline and a single by Heather.  This loaded the bases allowing Lauren the opportunity to drive in one run with a single to left followed by a sac fly by Kris to right.  Time expired leaving the game knotted at 3.  In the second pool game we were matched with defending ASA "B" National Championship the Majic Styx.  The Blast score early and often for a 10-1 victory.  The game was highlighted by Heather's first inning grand slam.  Winning on the mound for the Blast was Anna Kate.

In our first bracket game we once again were pitted against the Majic Styx.  Starting off the scoring for the Blast in the second was Audrey's one run single.  In the third Anna drove in Lauren with a sac fly, followed by a 2-run shot by Heather.  In the fourth the Blast would strike for 3 more to finish with a 7-3 win.  Grabbing the win on the mound was Heather.

In our second bracket game Lauren would take to the mound against the Metro Storm and throw a beauty striking out six while pitching a 5 hit shutout to secure the victory.  The Blast would need only one innning to score 6 runs on 6 hits.  This inning would be highlighted by a 2 run shot by Londen.

In our third bracket game the Blast showed the poise and determination of a champion.  Down 5 to 0 with 2 outs in the final inning we struck for 5 of the most exciting runs in our programs history.  First a single by Audrey, a walk by Ashton, and singles by Londen and Heather the Blast managed to push 2 runs across.  With two on and two outs Anna stepped to the plate and drove 1-1 pitch over the left field fence to tie the game.  In ITB the Blast scored one for a 6-5 lead only to have the Ms. Elite to tie it in the bottom half.  In the top on the 7th bases were loaded after a single and an intentional walk.  This brought Heather to the plate who promptly drove the first pitch over the left centerfield fence for a grand slam and a 10-6 victory.  Anna Kate grabbed the win on the mound.  Great Game Girls!!!

In the finals of the winner bracket the Blast faced the Madison Motion.  After jumping up 2-0 off Londen's 2-run shot.  The Motion, not to be outdone, hit a 3-run shot to go up one.  The score stayed knotted until the 4th which saw the Blast scored 9 runs on 4 hits to win 11-4.  Grabbing the win on the mound was Anna Kate.

In the finals of the tournament the Blast once again faced the Madison Motion for the championship.  With Lauren on the mound the Blast went to work early.  After scoring 6 in the first the Blast would bang out 13 runs on 14 hits.  Congratulations to the "Girls of Black".
