DEA Bedford Shuts Out Lexington in an Impressive Match 2-0

Posted by Dale Dubois on May 15 2005 at 05:00PM PDT
DEA Bedford Masters played their best match of the season so far as they shut out the Eagles of Lexington, 2-0 yesterday at Legacy. In a truly impressive show of passing and possession, Bedford totally dominated the game. If it were not for the talent of the Eagles keeper, the score could have easily been 10-0. DEA would score at about the 15 minute mark as George Wegricht would head in a cross from Jim Pellerin from the right corner. George would be a constant threat up top throughout this match. DEA's defense of David Poole, Mark Major, Sean Kelly and Dale Dubois would shut down all attempts of Lexington to get into this game. Jim McCall along with Jim Kellogg, Jim Pellerin, and Rick Plichta controlled the midfied for Bedford and put together some quality passing. The 3 Jim's and a Rick forced the Eagles to move their best player to a defensive roll. The first half would end 1-0 for DEA. The second half was more of the same. DEA working the ball out of the back field through to the Mids. Then around up to the strikers for a go at the net. George, Stan and Billy Jean would all have some good shots in the second half that were saved by the Eagles net minder. At about the 20 minute mark, however, DEA would be awarded a free kick off to the right side of the Lexington net. George W. would serve the ball into the area right onto Jim Kelloggs head. Jim's head ball would beat the keeper clean to put DEA up by two. A bit of comedy was provided midway through the half by two Lexington players that were converging on George very hard. The two Eagle players were lining George up for a sandwich. George pulled back at the last second and the two Lexington players collided hard sending both to the ground in something you normally see only in cartoons. One left with a broken nose and the other remained. The two goal cushion would be more than enough as DEA would not let down for a minute. The returning, Tod Marvel would have to make a couple saves for DEA, as he took over for Eric Burger, in the net in the second half. Final score 2-0 DEA. GREAT GAME !!!! Next week DEA travels to Nashoba looking for their next win. Bedford faced Nashoba earlier this season at home and tied 2-2. If DEA plays like they played yesterday, noone in this division can beat them. Game time is 10 AM at Forbush Field in Bolton, MA. See 'Locations' for directions.
