DEA Masters Settle for a Tie With Westford, 1-1

Posted by Dale Dubois on May 08 2005 at 05:00PM PDT
On a cold and windy Mother's Day morning, the DEA Bedford Masters took on the Grey Goats of Westford at Legacy. DEA would have to settle for a 1-1 tie in the end as they just could not net the winning goal. It was very tough conditions with a 10 to 15 mph constant wind, a bit of rain and the temperature just barely 40 degrees. However, DEA once again took control of the game early with some good lateral ball movement. Bedford had some chances early on. Stan Wisniewski and Jim Pellerin both had good chances but missed just wide. The Westford keeper was forced to make some good saves on shots from Jim McCall and Dan Roberge. On the other end Mitch Green kept tight command of the defense shutting down the Asian attacks. It would be Westford however, that would put the first points on the board, as a long shot off the DEA keepers punt would slip into the net. DEA didn't panic as they knew they had the better squad. The half would end 1-0 for the bad guys. The second half would be all DEA. With the wind now at their backs, Bedford pinned Westford in their own end for 40 of the 45 minutes. But, again, they could not find the equallizer. DEA had at least 15 good chances to score and either the shots would sail high or wide or the keeper would reel them in. Finally, DEA would get a corner kick with about 10 minutes to play. Jim McCall would serve it into the box to Dale Dubois' head. Dale's head ball would be headed back out by a Westford defender, but right back to Dale. Dubois would volley the ball through a screen for the equallizer. In the final minutes, EVERYONE on DEA tried to win the game but the Goats keeper came up big to presearve the tie. Bedford is now unbeaten in its last four games. Next Sunday, DEA takes on the Lexington Eagles at home. The Eagles handed Bedford a loss on opening day and currently sit one spot ahead in the standings. DEA has a better squad, so this should be a great game. Game time is 10:30AM. Maybe Bruce Walsh will be kind enough to bring the balls, roster, and beer that he was intrusted in. By the way Bruce, the game starts at 10:30 so it would be nice to have the equipment by 10:15 so we can warm up and check in. Thanks to all the Mother's that came to watch the game. Happy Mother's Day.
