DALKEITH LEAVE WITH THE POINTS

Posted by Roy Gill at Oct 3, 2014 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

MONTROSE ROSELEA v DALKEITH THISTLE

MCBOOKIE.COM EAST PREMIER LEAGUESAT OCT 4TH 2014 Roselea entertained Dalkeith Thistle in an East Premier League at Broomfield Park. The sides had met at the same venue four weeks ago with the home side having a very comprehensive 3-0 win. Both sides were toiling for numbers and named Trialists on the bench. Roselea had no fewer than 7 players missing with Ryan & Paul Taylor and Morgan Smith on holiday, James Collier & Paul Whyte injured, Kyle Findlater ill, Andy Tringham working. Craig Anderson who had also been ill all week made the starting line up.  With several games postponed in Tayside due to the heavy rain there was no such problems at Broomfield and the pitch was in great condition.

Roselea: Mcleod, Rae, Reoch, Thomson, Cruickshank, Mitchell, Anderson, McDowell, Reid, Bailey & Watson. Subs: Trialist, Trialist and Brand.

There was a disaster for home keeper Mcelod in 5 minutes. He came to catch a LALLY cross ball and got himself ahead of the ball which squirmed off his hands and into the net for a welcome opener for Dalkeith. Roselea had a couple of half chances in the next 5 minutes. Watson played a great ball behind the Dalkeith left back and Mitchell got in but a great tackle prevented him shooting with Roselea having half hearted attempts for a penalty claim. Watson then got on the end of a Cruickshank inswinging free kick but again a great block prevented a goal. Dalkeith had a great chance to make it two nil when Waters flicked a free kick on and it came back off the post when the ball fell to Lally it took two great saves from Mcelod, the second being a wonder save to prevent a goal. There was two booking for Mitchell and Watson of Roselea however Morris of Dalkeith who also committed a couple of fouls before kicking the ball away escaped to the annoyance of the Roselea support. In 18 minutes Reid was just off target for Roselea when he headed a Rae cross goalwards. Reid then played a ball over the top after a corner and set Mitchell away after breaking the offside trap but his early ball failed to find a Roselea shirt in the box. In 40 minutes Dalkeith had another chance when Moffat got to the byeline and sent in an inviting cross which Mcleod took off the head of the arriving Lally with Dalkeith claiming some contact. Roselea looked like they were clawing their way back into the game but they were hit by a sucker punch second goal right on the stroke of half time. Lally nutmegged a Roselea defender in the corner before cutting the ball back to MOFFAT who stroked the ball home from 18 yards.

Half Time: Montrose Roselea 0 Dalkeith Thistle 2

Roselea started the second half brightly and were looking for a way back into the game. Cruickshank picked the ball up midway inside the Dalkeith half and whipped in another great ball but Reid’s header went just over the bar. Roselea were having plenty of possession however they lacked a cutting edge against a Dalkeith defence who were not willing to make things easy for the home side and defended well in the low sun. There was a long stoppage midway through the second half when Murray of the visitors went down after a tackle from Dale Reid. Despite being carried off the pitch he was back in action a couple of minutes later. McNeill broke for Dalkeith and only a great tackle from Thomson prevented him getting a shot away in 77 minutes. There was to be two chance’s for Roselea in stoppage time when Thomson had  a header well saved by visiting keeper Paterek. When the corner came in Dale Reid struck a great shot only for the keeper to save well again. It was not going to be Roselea’s day.

Full Time: Montrose Roselea 0 Dalkeith Thistle 2

This was a hugely disappointing result against a Dalkeith side which was also struggling for bodies. The early goal and the killer blow right on half time meant that the points were justified in going to the visitors. They were certainly there for the taking however Roselea’s personnel problems did not help their cause. After eight games Roselea now sit with four points and they will have to start picking up points quickly to get back into contention.Match Sponsors Sharpness Shipyard chose Michael Cruickshank as their Man of the Match. Roselea have two tough matches coming up with a trip to League leaders Dundonald Bluebell on Sat Oct 11th then a home League match to Glenrothes on Sat Oct 18th. Roselea have Hospitality available for the Glenrothes match.

ROSELEA PROGRESS AFTER LOCAL DERBY WIN

MONTROSE ROSELEA v ARBROATH VICS
GA CUP PRELIMINARY ROUND
SAT SEPT 27TH 2014

Roselea faced near neighbours Arbroath Vics in the Preliminary Round of the GA Cup with a home tie against Dundee Violet the reward for the winners.

Roselea welcomed back Craig Anderson, Michael Cruickshank and Morgan Smith however Paul & Ryan Taylor, Aaron Thomson and James Collier through injury were absent. Kane Hester was suspended for Vics having been sent off the previous week against Kirrie Thistle.

Despite Vics sitting in a lowly position in the North Division a tough game was expected from a side showing a mixture of experience and youth.

Roselea: Mcleod, Findlater, Cruickshank, Whyte, Reoch, Tringham, Anderson, McDowell, Rae, Reid & Watson. Subs: Smith, Bailey, Mitchell.

There was little to report in the opening 10 minutes with only a right footed Tringham shot which Cargill in the Vics goal saved easily then Warren skied over a shot from a narrow angle for Vics.

In 16 minutes Riddell of Vics was lucky to escape without a booking after catching Tringham late with his studs.

In 25 minutes Donald scopped a ball towards the Roselea ball and it was put behind the goal fo a corner. When the corner came in Watson tried to flick on for Vics with Anderson again turning it behind for a corner under severe pressure.

In 26 minutes Dale Reid passed up a great chance to open the scoring when Florence was short with a back pass and he nipped in to round the keeper but couldn’t keep his balance to slot into the open goal from a tight angle.

In 28 minutes Donald had a good drive heading for the upright turned round by home keeper Mcleod. From the dangerous corner Anderson had to head behind again as Vics continued to use the wind to their advantage.

In 32 minutes Watson was unlucky to be penalised and Sturrock sent in a great free kick which Craig Watson only just failed to connect with.

Sturrock of Vics had been booked and was dancing on thin ice after bringing Reid down as he broke away but remained on the field. Reid took the free kick hiself but only managed to make contact with the Vics wall.

In 40 minutes Watson of Arbroath Vics was very lucky not to find himself in the referee’s book after he launched the ball forty yards away a long time after being adjudged to be offside.

In 45 minutes Roselea took the lead with a goal coming from one of the few crosses which troubles the Vics defence. It was Andy Tringham who sent in a great cross at the perfect height for Calum WATSON to head home from 6 yards. Despite not being a classic display Roselea certainly deserved to go in ahead at half time.

Half Time: Montrose Roselea 1 Arbroath Vics 0

7 minutes into the second half Dale Reid played a great ball into Watson however keeper Cargill was alert for Vics and just made his interception in time.

In 52 minutes Donald of Vics had a long range shot but it was high and handsome being kind to the striker.

Cruickshank of Roselea then had a low drive which was going off target but Tringham deflected the ball goalwards and brought out a great save from Cargill.

In 70 minutes Reid again put Watson in and despite Sturrock clipping his heel he was deterimned to score but was once again foiled by Cargill.

Roselea made a change in 73 with Liam Bailey replacing Dale Reid.

There were more chances for Roselea with Cargill blocking a Watson drive then Whyte and Watson rose for a cross only to be foiled by Cargill yet again.

Roselea made a second change in 85 with Morgan Smith going on for Craig Anderson in the middle of the park.

Vics did not really create anything during the second period and it seemed like they were intent in keeping the score close in the hope for a break to force penalty kicks.

Roselea had one last chance when Morgan Smith’s low shot was turned goalwards by Watson and this time Cargill managed to foil him with his feet.

Full Time: Montrose Roselea 1 Arborath Vics 0

Although not a spectaculor victory this was enough for Roselea to progress in the GA Cup against a Vics side which did not seem to offer any spark to get into the game. Roselea will now face Dundee Violet at home in the 1st Round proper. Match Sponsors MGFA nominated Ross Mcleod as their man of the match having dealt with all that Vics could test him with.

On Sat Oct 4th Roselea are at home to Dalkeith Thistle in the McBookie.com Premier League with a 2.30pm KO. Dalkeith visited Broomfield Park three weeks ago and Roselea will be hoping for a similar 3-0 scoreline to get them moving in the League.

NO POINTS AT RIVERSIDE

JEANFIELD SWIFTS v MONTROSE ROSELEA

MCOBOOKIE.COM EAST PREMIER LEAGUE

SAT SEPT 20TH 2014

Roselea travelled to the Riverside Stadium Perth on their hunt for Premier League points and were buoyed by their first victory over Tayport the previous week. Ross Mcleod returned between the sticks after Wedding duty however Michael Cruickshank was still missing and Craig Anderson & Morgan Smith were also unavailable. On the plus side Ryan Taylor took a place on the bench following injury.

Roselea: Mcleod, Rae, Whyte, Reoch, Findlater, Reid, McDowell, Tringham, Mitchell, Watson & Collier. Subs: R Tayor, P Taylor, Bailey & Thomson.

There was a shock opening for Roselea with a mysterious penalty being awarded against them inside the first minute with no Jeanfield player staking claim. Andrew Tringham’s sliding tackle outside the box was hauled back with the referee pointing to the spot and Gary FRASER accepted the bonus by slotting the ball into the corner of the net for the opener.

In 6 minutes Calum Watson connected with a great diagonal ball from Dale Reid and was just off target with his first time volley.

In 8 minutes Roselea fell further behind from a great free kick after McDowell seemed to pull out of a challenge. McMANUS accepted the task for Jeanfield and sent an unstoppable free kick up and over the wall to give Mcleod no chance.

Roselea had a double chance in 20 minutes but on both occasions could not hit the target. McDowell shot from the edge of the box but was well wide however Dale Reid did well to follow in but his shot was screwed along the bye line. When the ball was crossed in to James Collier he took the ball down well with his chest but he also screwed his shot wide.

Jeanfield had the ball in the net on two occasions however the referee quite correctly chopped them off for an offside and a foul.

McDowell of Roselea picked up a booking for 3 late fouls in succession.

In 31 minutes Jeanfield went three up with a very soft goal. The ball was given away in midfield and when it was squared along the edge of the box McMANUS gladly accepted the task of drilling the ball home from 18 yards into the corner of the net.

Roselea were needing a life line to get back into the game and they got it in 36 minutes. Dodds who had earlier been booked slid on late on Whyte after the defender had cleared and following an altercation he was shown a second yellow card, reducing the home team to 10 men.

Roselea could not make any gain on the extra man however Collier took a knock on his back and had to be replaced by Ryan Taylor after the interval.

Half Time Jeanfield Swifts 3 Montrose Roselea 0

Jeanfield despite having the ten men had the first chance of the second half when Fraser crossed for Mcleish who was unlucky to see the ball cushion into Mcleods hands in 55 minutes.

Roselea had two great chances to get a goal back in the following minutes both created by Dale Reid. He switched play to Ryan Taylor who found room inside the box but dragged his shot wide then another diagonal ball from Reid found Watson and his chipped effort was well saved by Bruce in the Jeanfield goal.

Bruce had another great save a minute later when after a corner the ball to Tringham who had a great drive blocked by the stopper.

Bruce was thwarting Roselea and he had another two stops from a point blank Ryan Taylor header and a curling effort from Watson at the edge of the box.

Roselea’s pressure was not paying off and at the other end there was always the chance of a break away. Fraser found himself in on Mcleod however the Roselea keeper made a great save as the striker tried to round him in 66 minutes.

In 67 minutes Roselea made a second change with Ross Mitchell being replaced by Liam Bailey.

The sub was looking lively and made an instant impact by winning a penalty in 69 minutes. He was tripped as he looked to control a ball in the box and the referee awarded his second penalty of the day. Dale REID took responsibility and struck the ball into the corner of the net.

In 72 minutes there was a double goalmouth scramble in 72 minutes when Watson crossed and Bruce in the goal then a defender cleared off the line. Roselea were piling on the pressure and it paid off with a second goal from the resulting corner. The ball fell to Paul WHYTE with his back to the goal and he swivelled and struck a brilliant right footed volley into the corner of the net.

Roselea had their tails up against the ten men Jeanfield who were beginning to wilt however they scored a decisive fourth goal when Roselea were caught pushing forward. It was a piece of brilliance from ex Roselea player Gary Fraser as he dummied to shoot with his left before chipping a great ball with his right with Mcleod doing well to prevent it crossing the line however MCLEISH followed up to score from close range.

A couple of minutes later it was danger man Fraser who almost created Jeanfield’s fifth when his dangerous was narrowly missed by Smith at the back post.

Roselea made a final change with Thomson replacing Tringham with the defender quite unlucky to pick up an early booking.

Sub Gavin ANDERSON rubbed salt in the Roselea wounds with a fifth goal in the 88th minute when he scored from close range and then had an identical chance in stoppage time which he managed to blast past the post.

Full Time: Jeanfield Swifts 5 Montrose Roselea 2

After Jeanfield were awarded a gift of a penalty and a slow start from the visitors they gradually clawed their way back into the game. The loss of the fourth goal a couple of minutes of closing the lead down to one goal was a killer blow but Jeanfield deserved the three points for the way they battled with 10 men.

Roselea take a break from League duty with Arbroath Vics arriving at Broomfield Park for a GA Cup tie on Sat 27th Sept with a 2.30pm KO. Then on Saturday Oct 4th Dalkeith Thistle return to Broomfield Park for a League match following their recent 3-0 loss in an East of Scotland cup tie.

TAYPORT BAKED AT LAST

Posted by Roy Gill at Sep 12, 2014 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

MONTROSE ROSELEA v TAYPORT
McBOOKIE.COM EAST PREMIER LEAGUE
SAT 13th SEPT 2014 KO 2.30pm

Roselea were looking to springboard their League season after last weeks great 3-0 win over Dalkeith Thistle in the East of Scotland Cup. Roselea were boosted by the return of Aaron Thomson, Andrew Tringham and James Collier although Ryan Taylor missed out through injury, Michael Cruickshank through work and Ross Mcleod attended a wedding meaning Ronnie Massie was drafted in between the sticks. Roselea had yet to beat Tayport in a competitive game with their best effort a 2-1 defeat in 2010 and a penalty shoot out following a 0-0 pre season opener draw in 2001. Tayport travelled to Montrose with 8 points from their 5 games so far.

Roselea: Massie, Rae, Findlater, Whyte, Reoch, Mitchell, Anderson, McDowell, Reid, Collier & Watson: Subs Bailey, Smith, Tringham, Thomson & P Taylor

There was a minutes silence held before the match got underway following the death of Forfar West End stalwart Gordon Roger age 55 who died suddenly during the week.

Roselea had a half chance in the opening minute when a great Rae throw in was held in by Collier who then layed the ball back to McDowell who scooped his shot over the bar.

In 4 minutes Roselea almost made a dream start when Reid broke inside before playing Watson in but his low shot was saved by the feet of Wilson in the Tayport goal.

Roselea started on top and Collier almost wriggled free in the box but his shot was blocked for a corner. Anderson sent in a great corner and Watson headed just over.

In 12 minutes Tayport had their first chance of the game when Milne broke free from Rae and his ferocius shot was held well by Massie at the second attempt.

Roselea took the lead in 16 minutes with a well worked free kick move after the referee awarded a very soft free kick after Anderson shot well wide. Anderson flaoted the ball into the box and after McDowell headed Whytes knockback goalwards, Wilson pulled of a wonder safe however the ball fell to Kyle FINDLATER who stroked the ball home from a tight angle with his left foot.

In 22 minutes Findlater almost went from hero to villian when he played a short passback to Milne and only a great save from Massie saved his blushes.

There was further danger for Roselea in 25 minutes when Thomson of Tayport was allowed a free header but fortunately he was off target.

In 28 minutes there was some controversy when the ball went out for a Tayport throw but Milne clearly kicked out at Findlater. He then took a quick throw with Roselea looking for a foul and Massie was again the man to thwart the danger with a great save.

Tayport were coming more into the game and only some stern defending with Whyte having one excellent block to stop a shot going goalwards.

Tayport finished the half strongly with their most dangerous player Grant Lawson causing some bother on the Roselea left flank however some good defending then a near post header which went just wide meant that Roselea went in at half time with their tails up.

Half Time: Montrose Roselea 1 Tayport 0

In the first minute of the second half Lawson almost continued where he left off and when he turned inside Findlater he was unlucky to see his shot cannon off Rae and out for a corner.

Roselea had a really poor 15 minute spell at the start of the second half where Tayport pressed them and rash clearances from Roselea just meant that the pressure continued. It was asking for someone to put their foot on the ball to relieve the continual bombardment. Roselea got a couple of breaks during this period which kept them in the lead.

Roselea made a move to counteract this in the 58th minute when Andrew Tringham coming on for Ross Mitchell and the midfield reshuffled to counteract the threat. This seemed to work and Roselea got a stranglehold in the midfield again.

Collier almost broke free in the box when Watson hooked on a ball to him but Thomson got back and got a slight touch on the left footed strike and sent the ball behind for a corner.

Roselea got the vital second goal that they needed in the 80th minute. Findlater played a delightful ball which set Collier on his way up the right hand flank and his cross was met by a beautiful volley from Dale REID which Wilson stood no chance of saving. This sent the Roselea support into raptures with Roselea Assistant Manager Steve Kerrigan showing masses of emotion.

Stefan Elvin of Tayport was unlucky to receive a second yellow in 82 minutes and was shown the way to the Chaning Rooms.

Roselea almost had a chance for a third when a long ball caught Tayport keeper Wilson out as he rushed out to head but after he headed towards his own goal Suttie managed to clear.

Roselea held out after a couple of Tayport corners in the last minutes to take a memorable and historic victory against one of Scotland’s most recognised Junior teams.

Full Time: Montrose Roselea 2 Tayport 0

Roselea have waited a full 25 years to beat Tayport after several close encounters in recent times. For players like Paul Whyte and Ronnie Massie this will have been a great day for them and both put in excellent performances. Kyle Findlater scored his first goal for Roselea and along with Ross Mitchell put in performances which are years ahead of their age. Match Sponsors Nerys Rae and friends chose James Collier as their Man of the Match.

The win does not take Roselea any futher up the League and remain in second bottom spot, however it does close the gap which was forming and leaves them one point better off than they were at the same stage of last season.

On Sat Sept 20th Roselea travel to the Riverside Stadium to face Jeanfield Swifts in a McBookie.com East Premier League match. Kick Off is 2.30pm.
