Dear FAST Parents,

The Board of Directors has come to the conclusion that we cannot offer a summer swim season this year because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

​

The social distancing guidance coming from our local, state and national organizations needed to fight the pandemic is at odds with the logistics of conducting a swim meet. At our swim meets, swimmers are crowded together in the ready area and behind the blocks, timers are shoulder to shoulder with each other looking over the edge of the pool, officials, runners and scorers are handing many pieces of paper back and forth. There is really no way to implement a workable social distancing concept in this environment. We considered other issues too – what would happen if someone associated with the team came down with the virus? Would we all need to quarantine? Would we need to end the season at that point?

The League is currently evaluating what they will do and have asked for our input. We came to our conclusion and wanted to let you know right away. We can’t speak or answer for the other teams. We think the decision we made is right for our team. Note that USA Swimming has cancelled all their swim meets though the summer. There are no college teams swimming right now and some have postponed the arrival of freshman swimmers to August, so our decision is consistent with the leaders in the sport.

There is an item of team business that we need to conduct before we go into hibernation – Board Officer elections. The existing board usually presents a slate of candidate that are approved by acclamation at our end of the year party. With no party this year, we present the slate now. If no objections to the candidates come forward in the next 14 days, we will consider them approved by the team at large.
