Welcome to the CMLA 2004 Boy's & Girl's Invitational Tournament Website! Tournament format: This year there will be 10 boy's and 8 girl's teams competing for the CMLA Invitational Tournament Championships. All teams entered will be guaranteed three games. Every team will play their opening round game on Friday, February 27, 2004. The second and third rounds will be played on Saturday, February 28, 2004. With the Boy's Semi-Finals and Boy's/Girl's Finals taking place on Sunday, February 29, 2004. Team and individual trophies will be awarded. Check the Schedules section of this website for game times and locations. The Handout section also contains a printable version of the tournament brackets. Rules: The Tournament is played according to Georgia High School basketball rules, with the following changes: (1) all games will be played with 7-minute quarters the clock stops on the official whistle; and (2) a Sportsmanship rule applies to Friday through Saturday games: no fast break or full court press for a team leading by more than 20 points. Overtime periods are 3 minutes. Eligibility: The Tournament is for middle school teams comprised of players who are affiliated with the a parish or middle school that fields the team for which they play. Athletes must be in 6th through 8th grades and may not have reached the age of 15 prior to September 1, 2003. Seeding for Boy's Semi-Final games: The top 4 teams from the boys’ pool will advance to the semi final game based on wins and loses in there first three games . If two or more teams have the same record at the end of Saturday the following tie-break rules will apply: 1) head-to-head play will be looked at first with the winner in head-to-head play advancing; 2) if the teams did not play then a winning points differential will decide the teams that advance. The team with the largest point total for there three games played will advance as follows: a 15 point plus or minus system will be effective. If a team wins a game by 9 points they will be awarded a + 9 for the win in the points differential. If a team wins by 25 a +15 will be awarded for the win. If a team loses by 6 a – 6 points will be deducted from the teams point total if they loose by 40 a – 15 points will be deducted from the teams point total. If a tie is still the result at the end a tie-breaker game will be played Saturday evening at 7:30 PM in the Blessed Trinity Main Gym. On the Girls side of the bracket the team with the best record from each pool (A&B) will advance to the finals on Sunday. If a tie exists the same tie-breaker rules as used for the boys will be in effect. If needed a tie-breaker game for the girls will be played in the BT-Aux Gym starting at 7:30 on Saturday the 28th of February. Fees: Tournament fee is $260 per team. Game Locations: Friday night games will be held at Blessed Trinity High School (Auxiliary & Main Gyms), St. Jude, St. Peter Chanel, and St. Peter Claver.
