HopkintonA Playoff Record : 2-1 Regular Season Record : 3-3-1
HopkintonA played their final scrimmage against Westboro at Carrigan1 under the lights. The night started off with lots of fun with Coach Hanewich pitching to all the players on both sides, and the players were shagging balls left and right. Obviously, Westboro knew a secret about their #14, as when he came to the plate, just about every one of his teammates backed up to the left center warning track! We later saw that he was their ace pitcher as well (at least on that night!) Unfortunately, I don't think anyone kept a book, and I didn't pay very good attention, so I don't have all the details for the game .. HopkintonA used 6 pitchers .. Teddy Doherty, Mike Hanewich, Connor Farrell, Matt West, Kenny Payson and Vinnie Doyle. Tyler Moothart had at least 2 great plays in the field, and had a great line drive to center field as well .. way to go Tyler! The rest of the details are all a blur, and since this is the last write up, we'll end with this .. the coaches let the players play their own game this night, using kids as base coaches, giving signs, etc. It was lots of fun! Good season all! Hope to see you all in the Spring!

The Hillers fall to FranklinA in Round3, 8-2

Posted by Serena Doyle at Jul 30, 2003 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
The Hillers fell short in Round 3 of the playoffs. Although their pitching was strong, the green team needed more offense and better defense to get the win. In the top of the first, Kenny Payson started the game with a single, and with some strong base running, he was able to score. In the bottom of the first, Franklin cambe back with 3 unearned runs, leading 3-1. In the bottom of the second, Franklin added another run, even though the Hillers' pitcher Matt West struck out the side. In the bottom of the 4th, Vinnie Doyle (the Hillers other pitcher) struck out the side keeping Franklin scoreless in the inning. In the top of the fifth, things looked good for the Hillers when Teddy Doherty started the inning with a single. Trevor Flaxman also had a nice hit, scoring Doherty. In the bottom of the fifth, the BullDogs came up with three more runs, with the help of a single from Esthimer and a nice line drive double by Todd. In the top of the sixth, Doyle had a great line drive up the middle, but the Hillers weren't able to rally back. Great try by the Hillers! You boys played a great season and made it a long way! Congratulations!!!!!
Today was another terrific game for HopkintonA! The Hillers knocked off the first place MendonA team 8-1, advancing to Round3 of the playoffs! Even though the Hillers' bats weren't as hot as they were on Saturday, the team had 9 hits spread between 5 players. Mike Hanewich went 3 for 3 with 2 singles and a triple and scored 3 times. Connor Farrell went 2 for 3 with a single and a double, scoring twice. Shane Scannell was 2 for 3 with 2 singles. Vincent Doyle was 1 for 2 getting a single with the bases loaded with 2 outs. Last but not least, Nick Marchessault had a great line drive right down the middle - Great job Nick! Although everyone played very well tonight, Shane Scannell had an unbelievable game all around! Shane pitched all 6 innings, and only gave up 1 run to MendonA! Shane struck out 5, but also took part on 8 more outs on the field. Twice during the game, he caught line drives that were hit at him, and made a double play by throwing out the runner at first! The Hillers fans were out in numbers today, with lots of relatives, and HopkintonB and Tondorf9 players cheering on their friends. Thanks for the support! Once again, the boys should be proud of themselves for playing so hard and keeping their heads in the game at all times! HopkintonA will face FranklinA on Tuesday in Round3 of the playoffs. Go Hillers!
