USA BASEBALL JUNIOR OLYMPICS

Posted by Evans Lalas on Mar 17 2005 at 04:00PM PST
As we finalize team plans on each of the events this summer I will forward that information out to the team as soon as possible. Once every event is finalized I will send out a recap. EVENT: USA BASEBALL JUNIOR OLYMPICS WHEN: Travel Day – Friday, June 17 Tournament – Saturday, June 18 through Wednesday, June 22: Guaranteed 5 games. Thursday, June 23 through Saturday, June 25: Top 32 teams in single elimination format w/ guaranteed 2 games. WHERE: West Palm Beach, Florida Games played at Roger Dean Fields and Santaluces High School Complex TEAM: The team will be staying at the Residence Inn 2461 Metrocentre Blvd. West Palm Beach, Fla. 33407 Travel arrangements for the team have not been finalized. I anticipate a five car caravan or less cars/rented van for travel. Players may elect to fly down, that is OK, yet will be at their own expense and I must be notified in able to plan for all others. The players will be assigned to a studio suite with 2 other players and a coach or chaperone. CHAPERONES: Parent chaperones for this event: Veda Norman, Art Sommerville and Carl Parmer. Let me know if this has changed. PARENTS: West Palm Beach is a part of Palm Beach County Florida which includes an area from Jupiter Beach south to Boynton Beach. There are commercial airports in West Palm, Fort Lauderdale and Miami that are relatively close. Driving time will be 10 hours plus. Concorde Travel(concordetm.com)is the official travel agent for USA Baseball and their internet site has numerous hotel options if you choose to stay somewhere other than the team or would like an option closer to the beach area etc.. You may contact them directly to book and receive the USA rates which we found to be competitive with anything else. There are a number of other internet sites including expedia.com that offer many options. Parents, friends and families are ON YOUR OWN in making all reservations; the team will handle all player, coach and chaperone logistics only. Players who wish to stay or travel with families in lieu of the team’s plans must get approval. OTHER: I will be looking to fill the chaperone slots for the remaining events in the next few weeks. Let me know if you are interested in specific events. I am looking to fill the roles for: East Cobb- July 4 – 9( 3 chaperones); East Cobb- July 18 – 23(3 chaperones) and New Orleans July 29 – August 6(3 chaperones). Based on. Transportation-Ability to transport in a personal vehicle or drive a rental van with 3 or more players. Chaperones will have 2 or more players in their rooms. As an equal opportunity organization, moms wishing to chaperone will have respectful privacy but should be prepared to have multiple players in their rooms. I will fill chaperone slots as equally as I can taking into account the above factors. Cook, transport, clean uniforms, nurse, baby sit, scout opponents games, keep score and or anything else that comes up in the course of an event. Thanks for all of the initial interest in supporting the team. I am sure we will have needs at every event over and above those supplied just by the chaperones and I appreciate any and all of your support and help. Our goal on player accommodations this season will be to have suite type rooms with kitchen facilities and on site breakfast. The suite rooms will allow us to accommodate more than 2 players per room with air mattresses, spread us out and give everyone a bed. We will prepare a number of lunches and dinners in. Depending on playing schedules we hope to fill some of the down time with group activities such as beach outings, college campus tours and museums etc. We will try to point to either a Braves game or Amusement Park outing in Atlanta but will limit expense related outings versus educational and economical ones. All player, coach and chaperone cost will be covered by the team on travel events. Call or email questions. Don
