Laguna Hills, CA (3-3-07) -  The Hawks jumped out early, exploded late, and never trailed in winning their home opener against Garden Grove H.S. in game No. 2 of the Newport Elks Tournament.  The Hawks scored three runs in the first inning on a single, a wild pitch and a sacrifice fly.  Garden Grove came back with two runs in the third to make the score 3-2.  The Hawks answered in the bottom of the frame with a solo homerun by Tony Kerr, his first of the season.  In the bottom of the sixth with the score 5-3, and the first two batters out, the Hawks scored 7 unearned runs.  The rally started with a throwing error by the Garden Grove shortstop on a ground ball play.  The Hawks followed with two singles, a hit batter, a walk, another single and then the big blow, a three-run homerun by Alex St. Pierre, his second in two games.  Closer Mike Paegel shut down Garden Grove in the seventh.  Chris Giovinazzo and Robert Refsnyder each had two hits for the Hawks.  The Hawks raised their record to 2-0.
