Yankees Drop Home Opener

Posted by Nick Till on Mar 16 2005 at 04:00PM PST
Yankees come up short in extra innings to lose to the the Angels 4-2. The fans for both teams were treated to a playoff atmosphere game and it was only the first game of the season for both teams. If this is the type of baseball we can expect for the entire season it will definitely be a season to remember. The game started off a defensive battle with both sides shutting each other down. The Angels took the lead in the 4th inning with two runners on and then the next batter hit a deep fly ball into center field for a triple scoring 2 runs. The Yankees responded in the 6th inning when Zak reached 1st base with a walk and then stole 2nd base. Jake hit into a fielders choice and reached 1st base while Zak was safe at 3rd. The Yankees number 4 hitter Mark stepped up to the plate and smashed a ball deep into right center for a triple to tie the game at 2. The game remained tied until the top of the 8th when the Angels put 2 base runners aboard. The Yankees then had couple of unfortunate past balls that allowed 2 runs to score. The Yankees were not able to put anything together in the bottom of the 8th. Dylan had an outstanding game at 2nd base with at least 7 put outs including a double play. Jake pitched 4 innings with 3 hits, 2 strike outs and 1 walk. Jordan closed out the last 4 innings with 2 hits, 4 strike outs and 1 walk. Our next game isn't until after Spring Break, can't wait to get playing again. Have a fun and safe Spring Break and Easter and we will see you soon.
