D-Cats Take 2nd In 2005 ASA Metros 14U "B"

Posted by Cynthia Seltzer at Jun 21, 2005 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

(06/22/05) - Well, we got ANOTHER 2nd Place finish! The girls played sooo hard and it was sooo hot, that it is hard to swallow this one. All we needed to do was win 1 Sunday, and we just couldn't pull it out. The girls had a great tournament, so we need to keep that first in our minds. The last 2 games just happened to be the ones we will take with us! However, the first 2 were awesome. If they keep improving like they have the last 2 weeks, and we will have accomplished our goals. We wanted a berth to Nationals, and to be better at the end of the season than when we started. The girls played hard, stayed together, and did a great job. There are teams that would love to have as many 2nds as we have this season! Maybe we will just save our first place finish for Nationals!!!!! Keep working hard and it is really coming together. Friday, June 24th @8:00 pm Field #4 vs. Spirit Red WON 12 - 2 Saturday, June 25th @12:00 pm Field #8 vs. Outburst WON 6 - 2 Sunday, June 26th @9:00 am Field #4 vs. Outburst LOST 3 - 2 Sunday, June 26th @1:00 pm Field #1 vs. Outburst LOST 9 - 4

(06/15/05) - Well, we had a fun weekend. Saturday was great...the girls played well and the bats got going. However, we might have not slept enough or something. Sunday's games were a bit tougher. We pretty much did ourselves in with errors. The girls played hard, but one error sort of led to another which led to another...and you get the picture. We had 10 errors on Sunday alone! Yikes! We will just have to put this behind us and be proud that we finished 3rd out of 11 teams. Good job, girls! If we hadn't already qualified, that would have earned us our NSA berth.

2nd Place Diamond Cats Memorial Classic!

Posted by Cynthia Seltzer at May 30, 2005 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

(05/31/05) - Well, we did it. We got 2nd in the Diamond Cats NSA qualifier this weekend and earned our berth to Nationals. Click on the picture or title above and the link will take you to the Nationals website. They have great information about the week and what to expect in Chatanooga! We discussed our options and decided we thought we would go to Chatanooga, Tennessee and play in the "B" nationals. Since our hitting is still not quite where we thought we would be, we will be much more competitive at that level. Now, however, we will have to play state at Cape Girardeau instead of St. Louis. So, we are gathering all the information we need to get this switched. We will get the hotel information to you as soon as we have it. The "B" state tournament is the same weekend as the "A" tournament at Ozzie's. It will be June 17th, 18th and 19th. If we have a game Friday night, we can carpool girls down early and parents can meet us after work if necessary. We will work this all out somehow. The girls played well this weekend. 2nd place is not something to be ashamed of. We earned our berth to nationals and had some really good games this tournament. We may not have ended it the way we would have liked, but we had many positive things come out of these games. Hold your head up and let's look forward to State and now Nationals! Way to go, Team!

(06/05/05) - The 14U St. Louis Diamond Cats played in their first 16U Tournament in Sullivan, Missouri! Our girls from the area appreciated the rest of the team doing the driving for a change. Sullivan was a good drive for some of the St. Louis families, but it was worth it. The girls played some really good softball. We tied with the Xplosion with 3 wins and 1 tie, but they got the first place trophies because of the tie breaker. The first tie breaker was points scored against, and both team allowed only 4 runs for the whole tournament. So, it went to the second tie breaker, which was points scored for, and they scored a few more runs than we did! Bummer! The girls did a good job, though, getting some great pitching from Sil, Ashley, and Lindsay. The offense was good enough to win, but we hit into some outs that if they had been inches either direction, would have been big hits! Oh, well, softball can be a game of inches! Our schedule for games was as follows: Saturday, June 4th 2:00 pm Field #4 vs. Osage Fastpitch - WON 7 - 2 Saturday, June 4th 5:00 pm Field #3 vs. St. Louis Xplosion - TIE 2 - 2 Sunday, June 5th 11:30 am Field #4 vs. Gateway Storm - WON 3 - 0 Sunday, June 5th 4:00 pm Field #3 vs. Washington Rebels - WON 6 - 0 What a good weekend! It was hot and windy, but it was a good time! A tune up for STATE!!! Go D-Cats!
